Bradley Prefers Cotto Showdown Over Pacquiao III

Posted by: Miguel Rivera on 12/11/2015 .

By Miguel Rivera

Tomorrow Friday's TruTV televised card in Puerto Rico, many insiders expected WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (33-1-1, 13KOs) to get named as the April 9th opponent for Manny Pacquiao. If finalized, it would become the third time the two boxers faced each other. Pacquiao had delayed his decision and the announcement on his next opponent will come at a later date.

Bradley won a twelve round controversial split decision over Pacquiao in 2012. He lost a twelve round decision in the 2014 rematch.

The only difference in a trilogy fight is the man heading Bradley's corner, Teddy Atlas.

Although the Puerto Rican star suffered a competitive defeat in his last fight, Bradley would still like to face Miguel Cotto. Bradley views Cotto as a fight that's more dangerous and more attractive to him.

Cotto lost a twelve round decision to Saul "Canelo" Alavrez. Pacquiao is also returned from defeat. He was lost a twelve round decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May.

Bradley's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, was interested in matching him against the winner of Cotto vs. Canelo, before the Pacquiao opportunity came up.

"Right now we are negotiating. But we do not know if we're going to take the [Pacquiao] fight or not," Bradley said to El Vocero. "I'm here to work on the TruTV card, with Felix Verdejo and Nonito Donaire. But of course I'm also here to discuss business here."

"I've faced Pacquiao twice and if I do it a third time it would be a fight of reckoning if anything else. It's the only way I could describe it. However, Miguel Cotto will be something new. I have never before faced a fighter who's that big and strong. Cotto has always faced the best. He's been in there with everyone. So to get a fight with a fighter like him, with so much class and shown such greatness, inside and outside the ring, it would be great. I've always said that greatness is measured by the amount of risk you take."

"I think anything is possible especially if you have a business person like Jay Z and have the other side, as in my case, a business person like Bob Arum. I think anything is possible and I think the two companies will find a way to do things if they really want the fight. Cotto is a great fighter, a great name. He is a living legend."

Bradley Prefers Cotto Showdown Over Pacquiao III

After reading this, I think it's safe to assume Pacquiao was gonna pick Bradley, but Bradley wants a new challenge, so he wouldn't agree to the fight. Pacquiao is gonna be left with either Crawford or Khan as his options.

Who would he be ducking though breh?:dwillhuh:

Pacquiao aint known to duck anyone.

Of course he is not. I'm just saying the media would say he's ducking the young Crawford even though we all know Crawford gonna get worked lol.

Stan sickness slowly infecting this thread.

At least be rational, guys. Is that too much to ask?

97G stans talking about standing infecting this thread ? :laff:

Yeah, I don't have a problem with it either. Fight is still supposed to be in April, so enough time, but he needs to announce it soon.
How far in advance did Mayweather announce Berto?! That was far worse.

Sounds like Pacquiao prefers Bradley (a fight Pac thinks he can easily win) and Bradley isn't as interested. Of course as a fan I want Pac-Crawford. I think Crawford can win and it could the beginning of his reign. Maybe Pacquiao doesn't want to end with such a big risk.

Actually as a Nelo fan, I don't see the poiunt of GGG coming down to fight him when Canelo looking like a light heavyweight in most of his fights. I mean he's A side and all but he ain't known for those kinda antics. Canelo fights anybody with no meaning to the fight, but him draining GGG should boost GGG confidence but the bigger question is : How good GGG boxing really is ? We've seen his flaws and he gets hit a lot and not that fast.

So, making hium come down in weights is kinda unfair to say the least, but hey it's boxing :manny:

Vargas went through hell and back to keep his zero and become champ...luckily 130 is full of hard punchers that can test his chin :gladbron:

He really did. I thought he was breaking down till he caught Miura. Then Miura pulled a Zab Judah & tried to get up too quick :lolbron:

On the real though both of these guys need a break & rest after that war. Don't wanna see another Castillo vs Corrales where they left their primes in the ring that night.

I am not a catchweight fan, but understand they sometimes hve their place. To me Canelo-GGG means too much (WBC belt, MW lineal title) that I would hate to see it be at a catchweight. I would rather wait (weight) until Canelo is ready at MW.

GGG usually rehydrates to 170-173 and Canelo has been rehydrating to 170-171. Walking around weight I think they are basically even. If Canelo needs a fight or two to get acclimated at 160, do it. For what is at stake I think we deserve a true MW fight.

Canelo is a true pro and understands boxing legacy. I actually think there is a good chance this fight won't take place at 155.

The matchup is interesting. GGG has shown high work rates and I think his punches thrown per round is more than most people think. That could be an interesting advantage. The Lemieux fight was interesting to me because GGG proved that he could adjust his style a bit to play around Lemieux's strength (power). Credit to GGG for showing versatility. He will have to do on that at it's highest level vs. Canelo. I think that is what everyone wants to see...a test of GGG's skills. He won't run over Canelo like he did Geale. He will have to show more boxing skills like he did vs. Lemieux, but vs. a top 10 PFP opponent this time.

Lemieux fight had little boxing involved. Boxing is not standing there and punch. Lemieux had 0 footwork breh lol. I seen guys at my gym with better footwork lol but credit to GGG for making him pay for fighting like an amatuer

Question to my gym dudes.

How many rounds of shadowboxing can you do at one sequence ?
