Froch: “I never rated Groves”

A number of months ago, George Groves promised James DeGale that he would fight him if he managed to defeat Andre Derrell in a fight for the vacant IBF Super-Middleweight title, something DeGale went on to do on May 23rd.

If Groves himself manages to gain the WBC Super-Middleweight belt from Badou Jack when he fights him on Saturday, the showdown between the two brits is bound to take place. However, four time world champion Carl Froch, who famously beat George Groves twice, does not rate either of the fighters.

In an exclusive interview with Lonsdale he said: “I think they’re both equally as poor as each other.

“I’ve never rated George Groves. He gave me a good fight in the first match because I wasn’t prepared, the rematch was easy. And James DeGale lost to George Groves…”

Despite Groves beating DeGale in the first fight between the two, Froch thinks that the latter will come away from the rematch victorious, and believes that he is one of the main reasons for that, he continued:

“How does the rematch go? I think because of what I’ve done to George Groves I’ve probably taken the sting out of his tail and DeGale is now confident after a weak performance from a poor Derrell, so he will probably edge the fight.”

When it comes to his personal favourite, Froch does not sway either way, but hopes for a good scrap where both fighters manage to do damage to each other, he told Lonsdale:

“Who would I want to win? I couldn’t care less. As long as they punch each other’s heads in for twelve rounds I’ll be smiling because they’ll both leave the ring bruised and battered, but like I said, I think James DeGale will win.”

I'm a believer in J-Rock, and If Trout wants to get that work, then so be it. If his ass doesn't price himself out again, I do respect him for taking the fight, because he is right in the sense that he really doesn't need to take the fight at all. Should be an interesting test for both if it happens, a test if J-Rock is ready for a title shot and if Trout is still a contender ( he did look good yesterday against a clearly overmatched hernandez)

I agree with you, but the bolded is the thing for me. If he feels that way, he shouldn't fight people Williams already defeated and then call Williams out after the fight saying, "If he wants it, he can come get some next" ...unless he really wants to fight.

I hope they fight though

He is trying to get on the undercard of Canelo-Cotto. Roc Nation trying to get Ward some buzz, but #WardBoys spin it like it is better not to headline any show then get a crack at being your own PPV. Add in that the hold seems to be "finding an opponent", yet HBO already has said fight Yunieski Gonzalez.

#SOGGang hasn't ever spent anything, but our precious time putting the #SSShookBoys and the lone Frochy Froch stan in your respective places with facts on facts on facts

SOG is about to co-main on the 2nd biggest PPV fight of the year...and fighting Gonzalez would be cool, IF we decided to stay at Light Heavyweight, which we haven't yet

Of course, we would be doing the #SSShookOnes a favor by moving to 175, but why when we still have business at Super Middleweight, you know...being the WBA Super Middleweight Champion and all, plus we might just want to unify the division before we move up. Aint that what yall use as the excuse all the time for GGG not moving up?
