Maidana open to Broner rematch or Guerrero, talks return and MayPac

Maidana, 31, decided to take some time off after suffering back-to-back losses against Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2014 and told WBN that he should be ready to fight again in the fall.

At the moment, there is no shortlist of opponents for Maidana's comeback, although 'Chino' stated that in no way has he ruled out a rematch with Broner as the American insisted on Tuesday.

"A rematch with Broner is fine. He's a nice guy and he's probably trying to push for revenge which is a good thing, but I've never said I wouldn't fight him again," Maidana exclusively stated to World Boxing News on Friday.

"After I beat him before, they asked me about an immediate rematch, but I said I have beaten him fair and square and only that I deserve to fight Floyd Mayweather - which was a logical thing. I never ruled out another fight and facing Adrien again is always a possibility for me."

Broner, 25, meets Shawn Porter on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and Maidana believes 'The Problem' will find a way past the one-time IBF title holder and would then be willing to negotiate another clash.

"I think Broner is the smarter of the two and that he will prevail during the fight," said Maidana. "Porter is strong, but I see Broner prevailing, and would I be interested in the winner – yes, why not?

Another fighter on Maidana's immediate radar is 'The Ghost' Robert Guerrero after a previous attempt to get the fight on fell through some four years ago. Maidana and Guerrero when both were hovering around the super lightweight limit when pitched together in what look on paper to be a classic match-up.

Guerrero recently struggled to get past the dogged Aron Martinez on PBC, although Maidana still sees his fellow-Mayweather challenger as a viable option and says if the pair fought, fans could expect an entertaining toe-to-toe encounter.

"That was a fight that we were supposed to have back in 2011 and it was cancelled just one week before the fight as Robert got a severe shoulder injury," he explained. "At the time I was devastated as I had an intense three-month training camp and ended up empty handed.

"Robert was also devastated as he had to be out of boxing for one year, but these days Guerrero has given fans great wars and I'd love to engage in a war with him myself.

"Hopefully I'll be back before the end of the year. October, November would be great and we will know more about who is my opponent soon."

On a final note, Maidana was asked his opinion on Mayweather's recent clash with rival Manny Pacquiao on May 2, which ended with a one-sided victory for 'Money' amidst claims by the 'Pacman' that he suffered a pre-fight shoulder injury.

"I attended that fight and to be honest I didn't notice that Pacquiao was injured at all but you never know in boxing. All I know is Mayweather outboxed Pacquiao all night and got a clear win for me."
