Dan Rafael chat wrap 6/12:
- WBA had Ali Raymi ranked...but he is dead. As far as he knows the WBA has not even acknowledged it yet.
- Believes Ramirez is ready to fight either Abraham or Steiglitz. They would be willing to travel to fight, if the money was right.
- GGG is the mandatory for Canelo-Cotto winner. Who knows if the winner and GGG will actually fight. If they do not fight they will be stripped and GGG will gain the belt.
- Boxing is on an upswing. HBO is having one of its best years in a long time, ESPN boxing site traffic is the highest it has ever been, and PBC is putting fights on network TV.
- Cotto vs. Canelo will get made. Still discussing venues. One possible location is Cowboys stadium. The official announcement of the fight will be coming soon.
- With Beltran-Soto scratched, Valdez will get shown on HBO if he can get a decent opponent. They main event (Bradley-Vargas) will be the 1,000th fight shown on HBO.
- HBO has said they will put together a video like they did for 500 fights.
- Four man tourney at MW: RJJ vs. SRL, SRR vs. Hagler, then winners? RJJ beats SRL, SRR beats Hagler. RJJ has a shot, but SRR wins overall.
- Tony Harrison has a fan friendly style, good skills, and a great personality. If he beats Willie Nelson, expect him to get a world title shot at 154 next year.
- No information on Mayweather's next fight. Just a guess it will be Khan. Seems like the most logical opponent.
- Mayweather should announce his next opponent within a month.
- Bradley vs. Vargas will be for the WBO belt.
- Canelo vs. Cotto will sell more than 500k PPV buys.
- LSC vs. Mares will probably be this fall. The winner ideally fights Frampton soon after.
- Ref Frank Cappucino passed away.
- PBC's main issue is that there isn't much ad revenue. It takes time to build the brand up and get advertiser's on board.
- Walters by KO over Marriaga.
- Froch vs. GGG talks are cooling off. Tom Loeffler says they would like the winner of Lemiuex-N'Dam.
- GGG wants all the belts, so winner of Lemiuex-N'Dam makes sense and be the best fight GGG could get. Lemiuex-GGG would be an exciting fight.
- Fighter who has the most embarrassing quality of opponents? LSC.
- Imagines Danny Garcia will be vacating the WBA belt soon.
- Anthony Joshua has the potential to be the best HW.
- Canelo or Cotto, who is the A side? Canelo has a bigger fan base, but both are major stars.
- Shockingly poor attendance for the Guerrero fight. Odd time for an outdoor fight in LA.
- No one is excited over Wilder's fight. Huge mismatch.
- Lara's fight is a mismatch as well.
- RJJ has two fights scheduled in August.
- We shouldn't have issues with catchweights if both fighters agree to it.
- Wilder vs. Fury or Povetkin will not happen this year. The WBC won't order a purse bid until October and those usually get delayed. If one of those fights gets made, it will probably be next spring.
- Not done yet, but the co-main event for PBC's 8/1 card (Malignaggi-Garcia) is most likely Jacobs-Mora.
- Darchinyan and Angulo are proud warriors who have been in a lot of good fights. They both need to look at retirement or risk really getting hurt.
- Postol is long and tall, but it can be hard to use that when Matthysse is punching you.
- Both Postol and Matthysse have said the want the fight and it is a no brainer for HBO to put on.
- Charlo will wait on K9 since it is a mandatory fight.
- When Manny returns who does he likely fight? Mayweather.
- Garcia-Malignaggi will be at 147.
- Tureano Johnson's manager is trying to get him a fight vs. Heiland. Good fight.
- No US broadcast for Abraham-Steiglitz yet. It would be perfect for Showtime International.
- Did not think Froch was really considering fighting GGG unless the money was amazing.
- Anthony Peterson is a non-entity. He rarely fights, fights nobodies, and is boring.
- Does not agree with Bowe being inducted in the HOF. Did not vote for him.
- Prime Casamayor vs. Gamboa? Casamayor easily.
- Brook vs. Rios? Outside chance of happening.
- When PBC broadcasts cut off and return on a different channel (due to time slot issues) it is absolutely horrible. In the case of the Darchinyan-Cuellar fight they didn't show round 2.
- Walters vs. Lomachenko is not guaranteed to be in the UAE (if it were made). It very likely could take place in the US and be on HBO.
- Unlikely that Lomachenko-GRJ 2 happens.
- Not sympathetic toward Margarito. Has always believed he is guilty as sin.
- Fighters walking in with their entourage enhances the atmosphere. PBC/Haymon view that differently.
- WBA vs. WBC who is worse? WBA is the worst.
- Verdejo to beat Najera.
- Chris Algieri is expected to stay at 147.
- Has talked with Richard Schaefer and he will be back in boxing before the end of the year. He cannot say specifics as his settlement precludes it.
- Broner vs. Porter may be the best card PBC has put on.
- At 147 he picks Porter to beat Broner without hesitation. The catchweight gives him pause.
- Erik Morales is a lock for the HOF.
- Pedraza vs. Klimov? Pedraza.
- Bob Arum can drink.
- Juan Diaz is recovering from shoulder surgery.
- Pascal could end up getting a rematch with Kovalev.
- People who think Manny did not suffer an injury and have surgery are conspiracy theorists.
- Eventually thinks we get Quillin-Jacobs.
- Dmitry Khudryashov has huge power, but is very wooden with not a lot of movement or speed. Against a top opponent he may be befuddled. His power is top notch.
- Do we see a different JCC now that Garcia is training him? Doubtful.
- Casamayor for the HOF? On the fence, but would probably vote for him.
- Predicting KO2 for Wilder's fight (the 10 pound weight advantage buys Molina an extra round).
- Expects to see Wilder fight again this year.
- Buy or Sell: Sergio Mora gets another title shot? Buy.
- Fury vs. Klitschko? Klitschko by brutal KO.
- Hopkins vs. DeGale? Decent fight, but he will believe it when he sees it get made.
- Always wanted to see Maidana vs. Matthysse, now it seems doubtful because Maidana is with PBC and Matthysse with GB.
- No news on GRJ.
- Arum says he is making Walters vs. Lomachenko next.
- Breazeale vs. Joshua? Joshua by massive KO.
- Molina: 239.25, Wilder: 229.
- Walters: 127.4, Marriaga: 125. TR told him Walters would make weight.
- ESPN has tried to get the rights for the boxing HOF broadcast, but the boxing HOF has delusions of grandeur.
- Has not heard rumors of Margarito making a comeback. If true...not a good idea.
- Ranks JMM ahead of Morales and Barrera, career wise.
- Ranking of these fights (Cotto-Canelo, Ward-GGG, Kovalev-Stevenson, Wlad-Wilder)? 1. Cotto-Canelo, 2. Kovalev-Stevenson, 3. Wlad-Wilder, 4. Ward-GGG.
- Rank the careers of Camacho, Tito, and Cotto? 1. Cotto, 2. Tito, 3. Camacho.
- Are there current notable fighters who he believes use PED's, but he can't say anything about it because there is no evidence? Yes, 100%.
- Prime Mosley vs. JMM? Mosley, easily.
- Fighters who have managed their money well? Hopkins, Wlad Klitschko.
- Doesn't particularly care either way about Garcia-Malignaggi. It isn't a bad fight, it isn't a great fight.
