Canelo Reveals Terms Being Discussed For Cotto
Posted by: Miguel Rivera on 12/3/2014 .

By Miguel Rivera

Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) discussed some of the details being negotiated for a potential showdown with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs), on May 2nd in either Las Vegas or Arlington, Texas.

Some of the details being negotiated include the weight, the official beer sponsor, the venue and more.

"The [negotiations] are advanced, very advanced talks and hopefully in the next few weeks the fight will be done. I want that fight to be done before the end of the year and we are working hard on those negotiations," Canelo told RED FM 88.1 Radio in Mexico.

Canelo admits Cotto's side is "very difficult to negotiate with" - something that other fighters have complained about in the past.

One of the big obstacles is the official beer sponsor. Cotto recently signed a deal with Tecate and Canelo has a huge deal with rival Corona.

They are discussing the venue and the split. Canelo wants the fighting weight to fall at 155-pounds, which shouldn't really be a problem since Cotto weighed only 155 when he captured the WBC title from Sergio Martinez.

"I love Las Vegas, where most of those [Cinco De Mayo event] dates are held, but another venue could be [in Texas]. We are looking at several options. This fight has to be a 50-50 split. We are at a difficult stage in negotiations," Canelo said. "I want to stay at junior middleweight. If the fight with Cotto is done it will be for the middleweight championship, but it would be agreed upon for 155-pounds."

If they are at the point where they are discussing the beer sponsorship than this match is pretty much a done deal.
All my PR family gonna be hyped as fukk for this fight.

Breh, that's not what you were saying just less than 2 weeks ago:youngsabo:

When we were all discussing the 65/35 split in Floyd's favor because of their recent numbers (last 3-5 fights), you disagreed about last 3-5 fights being recent history:sas1:

Were not looking at their last 3 fights... We're looking at the 2014 numbers... specifically both of their last fights against notable opponents

why go back 3? Just take both their last fights and come up with the most up-to-date and accurate drawing power... If you go back 3 or 5 or 10 fights you aren't gonna get that.. How is me taking both their last two fights trying to "force" Pac numbers to be on Floyds "level".. You sound ridiculous :skip:

Just taking their last fights, Floyd vs Maidana did 925k and Pacquiao vs Algieri did 300k. That's a total of 1.25 mill.....and would make it an acceptable 74/26 split in Floyd's favor then right?:sas2:

:whoa:, I mean....I'm only going by the logic you were trying to force on us here:mjpls:

:comeon: the universe knows damn well de la Hoya won that fight, boxed his ears off.. Robberies will continue in boxing.

I can careless about Vargas but the brother Nazeem exposed trinis trickery with the hand wraps.... Using a whole roll of tape on each hand, punches were never the same after that.
