Rigondeaux Speaks: A lot of Offers Are on The Table!

WBO/WBA junior featherweight champion Guillermo "El Chacal" Rigondeaux (14-0) has been quiet since his first round blitzkrieg of Sod Kokietgym (63-3) in July in Macau, China. Rigondeaux's promotional contract expired with Top Rank also expired after the victory.

Rigondeaux has been hailed by boxing purists for his near flawless defensive wizardry but has also received criticism from fans who prefer to watch a brawl than a technical fight which makes his worth to a promoter somewhat difficult to project.

BoxingScene.com caught up with the two-time Olympic gold medalist to get an update on his current promotional status. Various media outlets have speculated that Rigondeaux is on the verge of signing with different promoters but Rigondeaux insists that he and his team are still weighing their options.

"Right now I am at the height of my career. We aren't signed with anyone. We are in a great position. We have a lot of offers on the table but we haven't signed a contract yet. We are still weighing all of the offers. That is part of the business. I will definitely be part of the decision making process. Nothing will be done without my consent. No deal will be agreed to without me being present," said Rigondeaux.

Rigondeaux is still promoted by Caribe Promotions who along with the rest of Team Rigondeaux are currently looking for a promoter with television dates to serve as his co-promoter. Caribe has been with Rigondeaux since he began his professional career in the United States and the Cuban is very satisfied with them and the rest of his team that also includes his manager Gary Hyde and his advisor Alex Bornote.

"I am very happy with my team. I'm happy with Caribe and my manager Gary Hyde. Gary is doing the negotiating but like I said nothing will be agreed to without me being present. I am very involved in the future of my career," Rigondeaux told BoxingScene.com.

The 33-year-old said that there is no time table for when a new promotional deal will be finalized but he hopes to have a deal completed soon.
"Right now my career is progressing very well and I have a lot of companies interested in me. We are just taking our time to decide on which offer will pay me what I deserve. I hope to be back in the ring soon," Rigondeaux stated.

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum would love to stage not one, but two fights next year between welterweight champions Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

Arum told The San Francisco Chronicle that both networks, HBO and Showtime, are interested in staging the fight early next year. Mayweather has an exclusive multi-fight deal with Showtime and Pacquiao fights under HBO. But Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, believes the fight is big enough where both networks will work together side by side - as they did several years ago for the heavyweight super-fight between Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis.

“Both networks want this fight to happen,” Arum said to the paper. “All signs seem to point to the fight happening early next year.”

Both fighters have defenses coming up. Mayweather defends his WBC/WBA titles against Marcos Maidana on September 13 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and Pacquiao defends against Chris Algieri on November 22 in Macau.

“There is a sell-by date, where it becomes (after that) ‘Who cares?’ It has to happen by the first six months of next year,” Arum said. “And if it happens, there should be a provision with a different percentage for the rematch. So that the winner is rewarded for winning the fight. I would love to see these guys fight twice next year.”

I don't know if floyd/manny happens next year but there has been talk of cotto/canelo next may. so we could see floyd/manny.:yeshrug:

Cotto/canelo is too much easy $$ too much of a story not to put aside mild differences
whatever floyd/pac or arum have with each other appears to be quite serious
