Mayweather wants Canelo for his undercard on May 3rd

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is hoping that former WBA/WBC light middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will agree to fight on his May 3rd undercard in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather sees this as a beneficial move for both of them because it’ll make the pay-per-view numbers that much bigger with the red-haired Canelo in the co-feature bout against someone like IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina.

“It’s certain moves that Canelo Alvarez is making, me, I mean, as a businessman, I don’t like,” Mayweather said to Fight Hype. “What I would do if I was in Canelo Alvarez’s shoes.

I would say, the same guy that fought Ishe; I think his name is [Carlos] Molina, the same guy that fought Ishe. Fight that guy on my undercard for my next bout.”
I agree with Mayweather. Canelo shouldn’t try and fight off of Mayweather’s card yet because he hasn’t picked up the fans necessary for him to go off on his own. Canelo did well in fighting Mayweather last September and benefiting from Mayweather’s Midas touch in bringing in fans to purchase the fight on PPV. But Canelo needs more time before he can start headlining his own fight cards. At 23, Mayweather wasn’t a PPV fighter. That didn’t come until much later after he had built up his name following his win over Oscar De La Hoya back in 2007.

Mayweather doesn’t want Canelo to be stubborn and choosing not to fight on his undercard just because he was beaten soundly last September. Mayweather wants Canelo to forget about the defeat and come back with him and stay in the family so that they can keep bringing in huge PPV numbers as a team. A Mayweather card with Canelo on it is a much bigger card than either of them can get fighting alone. Canelo needs to realize that before he starts thinking about head-lining his own card in a fight against Molina or Alfredo Angulo.

Fans aren’t going to be excited about paying to see Canelo fight Angulo or Molina on PPV. But they would be interested in seeing that fight if it was on the same card as Mayweather. The two of them could work together well as a team until Canelo becomes a crossover star in the United States the same way De La Hoya did. Right now, Canelo still isn’t at that point because he’s only had a handful of fights in front of U.S fans. He needs more time and more visibility. The best way for Canelo to do that is to keep fighting on Mayweather’s undercards, but preferably against better opposition than Molina or Angulo.

Mayweather also wants Adrien Broner for his May 3rd undercard. If he could get Canelo and Broner on the same card in separate fights, of course, it would bring in huge PPV numbers on Showtime.

any real prospects from this card, or are these guys future jobbers? What's the education here?

How is Maidana any different then Margarito or PWilliams?? nikkas swear Floyd ducked them.

Matter fact Maidanas resume of Ortiz, Chop Chop, Morales, Soto Karass, Lopez N Broner is a lot better then anything Margarito N Paul Williams had accomplished when Floyd "ducked" em

You wanna bring up losses...let's talk Santos N Quintana :youngsabo:

Wasnt the Santos defeat because of a cut.

HBO Sports President Talks Rigondeaux (as reported by Dan Rafael on 12/20) by Ken Hershman, president of HBO Sports, regarding Guillermo Rigondeaux:

"I'm very torn, I have to say. I was expecting more from him," Hershman said. "This is one where you listen to the fans. The fans voted by turning off the channel. At the end of the day we're a TV network and we have to please our subscribers. If they're not interested we have to respect that. In the right match maybe there will be another opportunity, but it's not something getting done in the near future. I have tremendous respect for what he does but it's not something our subscribers responded to."

I know a girl who covered that show from what I hear it was a good one but I can't speak on their potential.

Subscribers are better off watching UFC. It's more real. Like you cant heel me in the kidneys but I can elbow your face.

You'd rather see Mayweather-Khan?

Yes. I think Floyd and Khan's style is a better matchup than Floyd vs Maidana. Maidana doesn't possess anything that can bother Floyd and he's slow.

It will be Guerrero, Canelo, Baldomir all over again:snoop:

Beating Broner means nothing, bc Floyd is is much more skilled, with much better defense, a much better counter puncher, with a much higher ring IQ.

I think this fight will be boring and non-entertaining. At least Khan brings foot and hand speed to the table and is also a better boxer than Maidana. Khan also brings potential excitement, being that he can possibly be KOd

@patscorpio....there is my reasoning breh:heh:

I would prefer Khan to Maidana

I was one of the biggest fans of Rigo and still am but man you can't put on a show like his last fight and expect for networks to support you.

However, this comment about "the viewers voted" is kind of bullshyt because I remember reading that showtime's and HBO viewership was almost 50/50 that night. If he was making an argument about people walking out and booing then I would be less likely to call bullshyt.

I hope to see Rigo on an undercard at least in the future and hopefully once his contract runs out ( I think he only has 1-2 fights left right) he leaves bytch ass top rank. Its their job to make him marketable.
