Of course hes super sharp- he fought in May. Thats what I want to see from Floyd-staying active and fighting twice a year. Floyd should look alot better than he has recently as a result, which is hard to imagine considering how gorgeous he looked when he outclassed Guerrero. Interestingly enough, I remember more people giving Guerrero and Ortiz a chance to beat Floyd than ppl are giving Canelo. After seeing what he did to Guerrero, most are expecting the same thing to happen to Canelo, even easier. And I get that since theyre more accomplished, have better resumes, etc but it does set the stage up for a massive upset :lupe:
Guerrero kept fighting back and switched strategies winning at least 2 and making a couple other rounds ugly, is Canelo that mentally tough to keep trying when taking a ass whipping, Pillow fisted Trout had him sucking air on his bicycle. The fight has no heat at all, Canelo should have fought Cotto....

http://espn.go.com/blog/dan-rafael/post/_/id/4781/flyweight-mthlane-gambles-loses

Moruti Mthalane has not lost since being stopped in the sixth round of a flyweight world title fight by Nonito Donaire in 2008. He is one of the best 112-pounders in the world, but not one of the smartest.

Since that loss, Mthalane (29-2, 20 KOs), 30, of South Africa, has gone on to win a world title, but he has fought only six times since facing Donaire. He won a world title in 2009 but made only one defense in 2010, two in 2011 and one in 2012. He has yet to fight in 2013.

With the boxing business in the dumps in South Africa, largely because of the lack of television commitment, Mthalane was forced to go on the road for his past two defenses, which took place in Italy and Panama.

Recently, Mthalane rolled the dice on his upcoming mandatory defense against Italy’s Silvio Olteanu (14-6-1, 6 KOs), the 35-year-old European champion who lost a split decision in his only world title shot (to Daiki Kameda in Japan in 2010).

Mthalane gambled that if he turned down a $50,000 offer (and the renewal of his promotional agreement) from South African promoter Branco Milenkovic that he would make more when the bout with Olteanu was put up for a purse bid.

Mthalane lost and lost badly.

Ulf Steinforth’s SES Promotions was the only bidder at the recent auction for the promotional rights and won them for a paltry $12,500.

With the purse split set at 85 percent for the titleholder and 15 percent for the challenger, that means that Mthalane is entitled to just $10,625 with Olteanu getting a stunningly small purse of $1,875. Prospects in four-rounders often make more than Olteanu will get, much less a fighter in a world title bout.

SES intends to put on the fight and has already submitted the 20 percent down payment to the IBF. Signed contracts are due back to the IBF by Aug. 2 and the fight is supposed to take place by Oct. 18.

Mthalane would have been much better served to accept a purse more than four times larger than what he will get now. On top of that, the bout would have been in South Africa. Now, Mthalane will undoubtedly have to travel to Europe again.

“We offered him new contract and $50,000 to do the fight in South Africa,” Milenkovic said. “He turned it down as he thought he will get much more with the purse bid. This is the reason for no South African promoter bidding for his fight. No promoter will go with a huge investment without a commitment from the boxer.”

:damn: :snoop: :mindblown: :wtf: :damn:

http://www.boxingscene.com/nkosinathi-joyi-heads-junior-flyweight-on-august-31--68209

Johannesburg – Former IBF strawweight champion Nkosinathi Joyi will be given a chance of reviving his career in a junior flyweight bout for the WBC international title against Filipino Benezer Alodod at Emperors Palace on August 31.

It had initially been announced that Joyi, who recently failed in his bid to annex the IBO title from Hekkie Budler, would be fighting for the organisation's super flyweight title held by Filipino Edrin Dapudong.

Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman said the programme had been pieced together with the objective of mixing crowd-pleasing fighters with top-level title contenders.

With this in mind, the four-bout programme will be headed by chunky Ilunga “Junior” Makuba's defence of his WBC silver cruiserweight title against American Eric Fields.

Makuba boasts a record of 14 wins against a solitary defeat, against Fields's 21 wins and a single defeat.

“We were looking for an easier opponent after Junior's striking wins in Monte Carlo, but the promoters insisted my boxer has elevated himself to a higher category and warranted a better opponent,” said Makuba's manager Brian Mitchell.

Despite his impressive record, Fields had yet to beat anyone from a higher bracket.

Rayno Liebenberg will test his mettle against Argentinian Gabriel Ramirez for the WBC light-heavyweight silver belt.

Johnny Muller and Tshepang Mohale have been given the opportunity of fighting for the South African light-heavyweight title, despite both suffering defeats in their recent bouts.

Mohale stopped the battling Muller when the pair previously met. He however showed improved form and great courage while losing to Liebenberg recently, and was capable of reversing that result
I thought he looked slow and lackadaisical at Strawweight, hopefully he can regain a part of his former self. I'd favor him over Dapudong right now.

Also...keep your eyes on Illunga Makuba, that fight he had with Kucher was :ohlawd: :whew:

http://www.boxingscene.com/sabillo-vs-buitrago-wbo-title-fight-heads-dubai--68210

by Ronnie Nathanielsz

Nicaragua’s undefeated Carlos Buitrago will face WBO minimumweight champion Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo in the Filipino’s second title defense planned for Dubai this October in a joint presentation of ALA Promotions and the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN.

WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel gave us the information at a dinner hosted for him, Championship Committee chairman Luis Batista Salas and Mexican promoter Felix “Tito” Zabala by ABS-CBN’s Gabby Lopez at the Intercontinental Hotel Wednesday.

Buitrago is only 21 years old but has an impressive record, being unbeaten in 27 fights with 16 knockouts.

He won the Interim title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Julian Yedres who was also undefeated at that time with a record of 21-0 with 13 knockouts, on July 20 this year.

Buitrago had earlier scored a 6th round TKO over Colombia’s Jorlie Estrada who was knocked out in the 9th round by Sabillo at the plush Solaire Resort and Casino overlooking Manila Bay last July 13.

Buitrago had also beaten Eddy Castro of Nicaragua by a 2nd round TKO on May 6, 2011 and followed with a 5th round TKO exactly one year later. Castro is the same fighter who was knocked out in the second round by then minimum weight champion Donnie Nietes in a title defense on August 30, 2008.

Sabillo who is a devastating puncher and an aggressive fighter has a record of 23-0 with 12 knockouts and was a former street fighter in Bacolod who moved to the famed ALA Gym at the age of 25. He is now 29.
Carlos does indeed have an impressive record at such a young age though I'm not fully sold on him yet, at least not enough to have him in my personal rankings. However, this is a good fight. :obama:

Someone's 0 must go :wow:
