Had to use gimmicks like playing basketball before the fight cuz errybody knew his opponents weren't shyt N 9 times outta 10 the guys he was fighting were unknowns N never even been on HBO
Thank you his fights were barely on HBO, and they constantly used to shyt on him for his decisions vs C class fighters
Roy is making career highs fighting eurobums, which is why he is continuing

Yea, Jones had the same issue Wladimir currently has-cleaned out the division and theres no one leftBut at least he fought them on reg HBO. Floyds fighting bums on PPV, and whats worse was he was going the distance with these guys and too afraid to step into his punches and get them outta there. Thats why for a long time no one was really interested in Floyds fights and found them boring and he had to resort to compromising his own integrity and portraying himself as someone ppl hate even tho he was a lovable person in reality.

well I never seen anyone look superhuman like RJJ. the stuff that he did to some guys that were world championship fighters who had been boxing all their lives...
and I seen fighters more shredded than Roy and admitted dopers like Sugar Shane. If it were that simple...we wouldve seen a few more Roy Jone's by now.

breh, this shyt can get subjective as hell...but still, nikkas in here need to know better. promoting black fighters in boxing is a difficult task because we are not as culturally engaged in boxing to the point of supporting it at the level of other cultures.
Mexicans' need sports figures to look up too. Same thing with Puerto Ricans. You can break down Caucasian and Asian and go further...to British, Pan-Asian, Filipino, etc.... How many Mexican or Puerto Rican superstars are there in the NBA?
True Roy wasnt a draw...but there was a reason behind it. It certainly wasnt because he wasnt exciting (wasnt his first 17 fights by KO?). He was from a small country town with not a huge population as a fan base. He's black...not Polish or Puerto Rican, so he can just adopt a new hometown with a cultural fan base.
The same shyt you talkin is the reason why HBO dont want us to see Rigo...and we gotta support these good fighters, not worry about if a nikka is from West Bubblefukk or if he cant speak English.

still beat the Harding that had just worked Tarver the fukk over....still stopped Clinton Woods who Cloud struggled with 8 years later....still won the HW title and came back and won LHW title 8 months later. If you shyt on Roy for those wins...then I can shyt on any fighter you claim or name because hardly anyone can match those accomplishments. Not even Floyd has moved up 2 weight classes and came back down to win a title. shyt aint as easy as you make it seem breh...but yeah...he was knocking nikkas out with Ripped Fuel.

When I say Roy wasn't a draw its in response to these nikkas stayin its OK for Roy to fight the village people cuz its HBO but not OK for Floyd to fight Guerrero, Ortiz, Cotto etc cuz its ppvs
If RJJ coulda made half of what Floyd does them fights would a been on ppv too....nikkas action like Roy was sayin "NO my opponent is a euro bum I can't charge my loyal fans"

I still maintain that Roy Jones Jr is the greatest boxer Ive ever seen actively compete in the sport.
He had his flaws, but he's still one of the most (if not the most) gifted boxer to grace the ring.
By the way that people talk about him these days, if I never saw a Roy Jones fight I would think he was just a big black version of Naseem Hamed

yes, be consistent, thats my motto. I said Paulie was gonna be a tough fight. anyway...there are a lot of stans and lots of haters. My place is neither. I am more of a devil's advocate than anything and I like for people in this forum to look at things from another angle than whats portrayed to them.
not to be a revisionist but Roy actually did make similar money even without being a huge draw. $22 mil for Ruiz back then was huge as hell. Roy generally made just below if not 7 figures for some of his fights. one of the main reasons he didnt sell the numbers you insist is because he never aligned himself with the top promoters at that time. DKP, TR, ME, etc....
Roy got to keep a lot of that money for himself by doing so, at the same time he did nothing to enhance his marketability. Mostly all of his fights had excitement.
On the other hand, Floyd made a shyt load of money for Arum....lost most of his earnings to the point to where he couldnt pay the IRS. went into brief retirement then almost signed with Don King!
Its not like Roy couldnt have been a bigger star...he easily could have. Roy just did it different than everyone else. If he is pleased with that, so be it. Its ironic that Floyd has a "Money Team" which consists of Haymon...someone Roy never had..because Floyd is all about getting the biggest pie even if he has to slice it multiple ways. Roy just never been about the biggest pie...only the biggest slice.

Looking back I don't think Roy could have become bigger than he was. He never really had the marquee names floating around his division like Manny and Floyd did when they were on their run. Them nikkas had cats like Cotto, Judah, Mosely, Oscar, Morales, Canelo, and,..etc. whether they were past it or not the public knew them dudes. Roy gets shytted on for not fighting Darius Michewhatthefukkisdudesname when dude wasn't all that hyped to fighting Roy either and its not like he was some household name. nikka made his name by whupping dudes after Roy beat 'em.
I can't front tho, Roy fought his share of cops and sanitation workers like he had something against nikkas with honest steady jobs, but he did it in exciting fashion and made a lot of worldclass nikkas look like they should have been teachers or cops or whatever. Its just that when you get a once in a lifetime type of talent you want him to fight everybody and become larger than life and sometimes it just doesn't turn out like that.
