Golovkin Eyes Martin Murray Defense on November 2nd


Gennady Golovkin wants to defend his WBA middlewight title against Martin Murray.

The unbeaten Kazakh underlined his credentials as a superstar in the making with a three-round destruction of Matthew Macklin at the weekend.

And, according to his manager, next on the agenda is another Briton in the shape of St Helens man Murray, whose latest world title bid ended in a disputed points loss to Sergio Martinez in Argentina in April.

"Gennady has already said that he wants to fight Martin Murray next," manager Oleg Hermann told WorldBoxingNews.net

"The problem is, we are told that Martin has big problems with his United States visa and cannot go to America.

"If he can get his visa and wants this fight, we have a date on November 2 and we can make this big fight happen at Madison Square Garden.

"As yet, we have had no answers back from Murray or his team on this matter."

Murray, who spent time in prison when he was younger, saw a Texas fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr fall through last year because of visa problems.

Ryabinsky: Roach Will Train Povetkin For Klitschko Bout - Boxing News

According to businessman Andrei Ryabinsky, vice-president of the Russian Federation of Professional Boxing, and co-promoter of the huge heavyweight showdown on October 5th in Moscow, confirms that veteran trainer Freddie Roach will train Russian Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 18KOs) for his fight with WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko (60-3, 51KOs) at Olimpiyskiy Stadium.

"Just a little information that no one knows about, Freddie Roach will prepare Alexander Povetkin [for Klitschko]," Ryabinsky revealed.

Povetkin has jumped around from coach to coach in the last few years, from Alexander Zimin to Teddy Atlas and most recently Kostys Tszyu. Povetkin's training ethics have been called into question in the past. Roach has several notable training camps coming up in the fall, so it will be interesting to see where Povetkin fits in. It has been well documented that Povetkin hates training in the United States, which led to his separation from Teddy Atlas.

Roach has trained other Eastern Euro fighters, including Dmitry Kirilov, Roman Karmazin, Ruslan Provodnikov and Vyacheslav Senchenko.

Every time Floyd comes back to the corner, it seems like all I hear from Roger is different variations of:

He gets that deer caught in the headlights look all the time. The man never has a plan A much less B or C . Watching dude work the pads is a joke , just disgraceful . He was always lackluster but with his condition he can't physically or mentally prep his fighters he's just collecting sympathy checks to ruin guys careers
