I don’t think Haymon leaving HBO caused a popularity decline but imo he could have done things better later on.
Imo the main problems were…

The over reliance on in-house fights while probably thinking that they can make others on the market irrelevant. It never happened and it just looked bad.

Letting some of his fighters to have long inactive periods.

And finally that he didn’t invest in top talent the way some of his rivals did.

That’s not to deny from PBC that they really built up some stars over the years and there’s still hope for them for the future but now they are in need of some blue-chip talents and a more consistent schedule.

The issue is people thing Boxing is more important to these media companies than it really is. With the rise of streaming and companies going deep in debt boxing became the easiest fat to trim.

The one that beat Broner and gave Floyd his toughest fight… yes, most likely
Hard to pick Tank until he hasn’t even been to 147, we don’t know how the power would translate
Not sure about Mikey either, he hasn’t been so impressive above 135 but at 135 he looked great and he is the kind of matchup Tank could struggle with
I know it’s in old but we’ve never seen Tank fight punchers like either they both had legit power at 147. I don’t see a way Tank wouldn’t struggle and need a big punch to get out of it.

To expound, boxing needs to overhaul its amateur system and get more eyes on these guys young if it ever wants to have a true sustainable future. People need to know who theses fighters are young and be able to become fans of them. The problem is the perception being that it’s more dangerous than football and the fact that you probably won’t hear of a fighter until he’s coming up on championship level. Also the heavyweight divisions just needs to be better because that’s where the best KOs happens and casuals love KOs. Yes pro boxing is flawed but it has a viewership and development problem because unlike most other sports it’s amateur system sucks badly. I mean I’ve been to a golden gloves but even us hardcores when was the last time you went to a golden gloves or amateur tournament. Now when was the last time you truly followed I fighter in their teenage years.

You make a great point
The promotion of the amateur system is very important to the overall promotion of the sport. Boxing has done a terrible job promoting the next generation of fighters

Not a coincidence amateur football has easily the best promotion with College Football making billions a year, which in turn makes the NFL the most popular sport in the country

Richard Torrez's upcoming fight with Guido reminded me of his fight in the amateurs against Jalolov

I remember @Apollo Creed mentioned that Torrez should be fighting at Cruiserweight. I was against it, but you got a point. That super aggressive style Torrez has will not work against the elite Heavyweights, especially when he is the smaller man. Also not sure he has the power to keep the bigger guys off of him

If you have a Cruiserweight size, for you to hang with the Heavyweights, you gotta be an elite Boxer (Usyk) or the power (Holyfield). Not sure Torrezz has either

.doesn't he fight at like 220s on avg? At min he could try his luck at Bridger, but if he can safely cut to Cruiser imo he fairs better. He is more solid than Zurdo and Benevidez who probably walk around at his fighting weight or close to it, so him cutting may be hard (since he is more muscle)

He improved a lot his last time against Jolo though and that whole tournament. We gone see but he definitely has some great athleticism.

from the home of coca-cola, i'm not referring to s
Haymon left with Mayweather. Schaefer and Stephen Espinoza got Golden Boy to leave HBO the next year partly because Mayweather didn't want to do business with Arum (the beginning of side of the street). Schaefer and Espinoza eventually got all the GB roster and took them to PBC so it's all connected. It's business and it's not like any of them HAD to be loyal to HBO but it was a major event in fracturing the spot with one side creating reasons why they didn't want to make matches with the other side
Exactly.. and my whole point is that boxing was never gonna get back to the position it once was at popularity wise with all these promotional stables scattered all over a multitude of networks and streaming apps.. Now we have someone who willing to put up the money and make all the fights fans wanna see dont care about the number of ppvs, ticket sales, sanctioning bodies, or promoters who all played a part in fukking up boxing(Al was just the catalyst).
