I don’t feel sorry for boxing promoters or especially belt organizations either but

1: If they are getting “replaced” they should be replaced by someone better, not even worse

2: No guarantee that they could take over the whole sport, even with the Saudi money, boxing’s talent pool is MUCH deeper than MMA’s, it’s unlikely that one organization can cover all.

3: I’m no UFC fan but I’ve seen a card or two in the last 10 years, to me the difference in presentation wasn’t evident. It’s similar to boxing with more stats, stats are present in boxing too but they are misleading.

4: As far as the promotion goes the UFC has more of WWE like cartoonish promotion to it where everyone has to act animated and I fukking hate that, hope you don’t mean boxing promotion will be like that. It’s ok if there’s some fukkery but it’s annoying if it’s so forced.

5: What about the Ali act? Shouldn’t it prevent a monopoly? It was created to prevent the exploitation of pro fighters.

6: Finally I’m skeptical of Dana White’s talent. As I know he, with a lot of help from his partners made the UFC a big brand which sold itself more than individual fighters with some expectations like McGregor. Point is a lot of ppl still buy into the brand, not necessarily the fighters. Have they built up a true crossover star since the McGregor, Nurmagomedov times? I don’t know about it.
As I read on multiple places UFC is in kind of a downturn now partly because what I’ve written above: no crossover stars.

It’s nice that he recognized that there might be an interest in the young sport of MMA, can’t take that away from him but boxing is a different sport with different culture, a richer talent pool, etc. It won’t be a cakewalk to just have all the top talent like he does in MMA.

I’m curious of what will happen but I really think forcing one new promotion instead of just buying out the belt organizations and let competition happen is terrible idea, esoecially with Dana White and for some reason a WWE guy.

Having one centralized location where fans can readily access one distinctive brand of fighting is what UFC has conquered.

It's what HBO, Showtime and ESPN used to have

Showtime and HBO were where the marquee fighters fought. ESPN had the up and comers it was easy to follow

Boxing with the wild wild west that it is you have DAZN, Amazon, ESPN not to mention all of these sanctioning bodies handing out cotton candy belts. On top of that nikkas pulling A-side tactics all fukkin day

It was ripe for somebody to come over and take over.

Boxing did it to itself. I think Dana White is a complete scumbag and I don't think half of his tactics are going to work with boxers. Fukkin them on money, sponsorships and their own businesses ain't going to fly.

Not to mention being berated by their promoter he's going to get swung on or jumped.

There's a reason why he could only pull this off with the help from Saudi Arabia. He couldn't create his own boxing league exclusively with UFC because his tactics weren't going to fly.

If it can be UFC level production with one recognizable champion and easy to follow format with fan-friendly fighting like they do now with Saudi Arabia it can work.

The biggest challenge is going to be getting guys to sign long-term deals with him. Because the model of signing a 10 fight deal is over

No way some of these elite boxers get stuck in these draconian contracts and their purse is supposed to go up and they're stuck

To takeover over a sport like boxing, and to consolidate it into one platform that is profitable is going to take years. I’m curious how they’re going to approach this. Dana said they’re going to start from the “ground up,” which is the best approach.

The most important step is signing all the top tier young talent to their company. They’ll need homegrown talent that they can develop into stars.

They’ll work with existing stars of the sport and pay them appropriately until they age out.

But what is the culture of the company? Are they gonna let develop boxers develop or just throw them to the wolves like mma guys? Interested to see how this plays out.
