Hearn suspiciously omitted?

Where’s all that Dubai, Vegas talk now?

Hearn should not have been so derogatory towards Di Bella post Lopez fight.

This has more to do with Bob Arum and ESPN than Lou. They put the money up so it's a literal fukk you to Eddie and Dazn. Same with Whyte/Fury. Even though Frank Warren won the bid, that was Top Rank/ESPN footing the bill to keep Eddie and Dazn out of the picture.

That and Hearn/Haney team were doing everything they could to not have the fight in Australia.

I see your point re Fury/Warren/Top Rank, however in that case Fury was at least signed/leased under Top Rank for North America.

Warren sure, the other name we are omitting here is Kinahan.

Hearn: We Wouldn't Have Agreed To Kambosos Rematch In Australia On Devin's Behalf

Eddie Hearn still considers Devin Haney loyal.

Haney’s former promoter understands that the unbeaten WBC world lightweight champion had little choice but to take the opportunities presented to him by Hearn’s promotional competitors, Lou DiBella and Bob Arum. Hearn promoted Haney’s past six fights, but Haney agreed to a multi-fight deal that’ll tie him to DiBella Entertainment and Arum’s Top Rank Inc. for the near future.

The 23-year-old Haney aligned himself with DiBella, Arum and ESPN after talks ended Friday between DiBella and DAZN executives. DiBella proposed the same deal to DAZN and Haney that Arum and Vasiliy Lomachenko accepted before he withdrew from their June 5 fight at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, to remain committed to Ukraine’s military efforts in his home country’s war with Russia.

Las Vegas’ Haney didn’t have contracts with DAZN, which streamed his last six fights, or Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. That flexibility enabled him to partner with DiBella, Arum and ESPN, which would’ve televised Kambosos-Lomachenko.

By battling Kambosos, Haney has a chance to become boxing’s first fully unified lightweight champion of the four-belt era. Kambosos is the IBF, WBA, WBC franchise and WBO lightweight champion, but Haney holds the WBC world lightweight title and contends he is that sanctioning organization’s legitimate 135-pound champion.

Hearn explained his take on Haney working with other promoters, and on another platform, during an interview on the newest episode of “The DAZN Boxing Show,” which streamed Monday.

“We’ve been talking, you know, for all over the last weekend and, you know, non-stop about the situation as well,” Hearn told co-hosts Akin Reyes and Barak Bess. “And, you know, his plan is to go and get those belts, and then come back and then hopefully we’ll be linking up again. But, you know, this is obviously the only fight out there for him, and [he] had to make [it]. You know, there’s no other fight out there. I don’t know the full basis of the deal. The deal that we had planned was that if he [won], the rematch clause would take place in America.

“I saw that it said that the rematch clause would take place in Australia, which is something that we didn’t or wouldn’t agree to anyway, on behalf of Devin. And in our deal structure, the rematch was in America. I felt that would only be fair. So, you know, he’ll have these two fights in Australia if he wins the first one, which I believe he will. And then, no doubt, we’ll talk after that.”

DAZN executives wanted the rematch to take place in the United States if Haney won June 5. They also wanted rights to stream Kambosos-Haney and the rematch in Australia, but DiBella’s deal with Top Rank and ESPN allows for a pay-per-view distributor other than ESPN in Australia and thus another revenue stream.

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Haney’s new agreement calls for him to face Sydney’s Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) in an immediate rematch in Australia if Haney wins a main event ESPN will televise the night of June 4 in the United States from Marvel Stadium. If Haney beats Kambosos, he would be obligated to an immediate rematch in Australia only if Haney were to remain in the lightweight division.

If Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) were to defeat Kambosos twice, he could then battle Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) in what would be an ESPN Pay-Per-View main event. That, too, would require Haney to remain at the lightweight maximum of 135 pounds.

If Haney beats Kambosos once and decides to move up to 140 pounds, his subsequent bout against an undetermined opponent also would be broadcast by ESPN.

“I want Devin to become undisputed,” Hearn said. “Loyalty is great and Devin is a very loyal kid. You know, we had conversations about this. But at the end of the day, you can’t miss an opportunity like this. And, you know, what he hasn’t done is signed a three-, five-year deal with anyone else. This almost feels like a bit of a Canelo Alvarez play.

“In respect of, you know, ‘This is what I have to do at this time to become undisputed,’ and, you know, he’s got a long career ahead of him. And I’m sure we’ll be working a lot together. But there’s no other fights out there in the division for Devin Haney, other than this fight. So, it’s a shame that both of those will have to take place in Australia, if that’s the case. But he’s gotta do what he’s gotta do.”
