Trinidad Wishes De La Hoya Success in Comeback, But Has No Desire To Return

Former three division world champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad, 48-years-old, has no intention of coming back to the ring in any capacity.

Trinidad had his last fight in January 2008, when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision at the hands of Roy Jones Jr. at light heavyweight. The Puerto Rican star accepted that fight after nearly three years of inactivity.

The man who faced Trinidad in one of the most lucrative pay-per-view fights in history, five division champion Oscar De La Hoya, is coming back to the ring in September.

De La Hoya last fought in 2008, when he suffered a stoppage loss at the hands of Manny Pacquiao.

In two months, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions will take part in an exhibition clash with former UFC champion Vitor Belfort.

Trinidad was the first boxer to defeat De La Hoya - and an exhibition rematch would be a nostalgic hit

But, Trinidad has no desire to come back to the ring.

"The truth is I’ve already lived my life in boxing. I’m relaxing, enjoying my family. But I’m good, here is my family. I wish everyone’s comeback all the success in the world. Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo [Alvarez] to become the best version of themselves because my time in the sport is over,” Trinidad explained to the DAZN Boxing Show.

There have been some calls in Puerto Rico to see Trinidad use his expertise to guide some of the younger fighters as a trainer, but the Hall of Famer has no desire, at least right now, to go in that direction.

“Truthfully, I have given it some thought. However, I spend most of my time with my family, my wife, my daughters, and I dedicate my time to them and all my other interests. I should devote more time to my family and not so much to boxing. However, boxing did give me everything I have," Trinidad said.

Good to see canelo and PBC finally come to terms on something. Haymon knows there's much bigger fights in the future for canelo than this plant fight. Might as well start a real working relationship. But Canelo finally fighting off wack ass dazn is a gift in itself. Don't gotta listen to wack ass Chris mannix and sergio mora argue like an old married couple anymore:hhh: ......seeing canelo on a PBC telecast gonna be so lit:wow:

This fight will be entertaining in the early going. Canelo will press the action. Plant has a flashy style and will make it tricky at first. I respect plants skillset but he don't have the durability, the consistency, or the chin to last the full 12 with canelo. Once canelo starts timing him and landing bombs he's gonna realize this is some whole other shyt.
