Naoya Inoue, The Ring Magazine bantamweight champion and unified titleholder, is due to face Michael Dasmarinas in an IBF mandatory defense, but instead of the fight taking place in Inoue’s native Japan as originally planned, it will take place on June 19 at a venue to be determined in Las Vegas, Top Rank chairman Bob Arum told The Ring.

The fight will air on an ESPN platform in the U.S.

“The problem in Japan is that if you’re a foreigner and you go in you got to do 14 days quarantine,” Arum said of rules there that are related to the coronavirus pandemic. “So, no fighter can go in and do 14 days quarantine and get ready for a fight.”

Dasmarinas is from the Philippines and would be required to quarantine for two weeks, Arum said. It has caused many issues for Japanese boxers, who are unable to fight opponents from other countries.

“(Teiken Promotions’ Akihiko) Honda is always complaining that the Japanese boys can’t fight outside fighters because of this rule. They have the same thing in Australia,” Arum said.

So, because of that, the 27-year-old “Monster” Inoue (20-0, 17 KOs), one of boxing’s elite pound-for-pound fighters, will fight for the third time in the U.S.

In 2017, he defended a junior flyweight world title by sixth-round knockout of Antonio Nieves at the then-Stub Hub Center in Carson, California, on the Srisaket Sor Rungvisai-Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez 2 undercard. In his most recent bout, on Oct. 31, he retained his bantamweight title for the fourth time when he knocked out Jason Moloney in the seventh round inside the bubble of the conference center at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Arum said the plan for the fight is to have at least a limited number of spectators now that Nevada is allowing some fans to attend events such as the NHL’s Golden Knights games at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“We are working on it,” Arum said, adding that Top Rank’s first priority in terms of fan attendance is the May 22 undisputed junior welterweight title fight between Jose Ramirez and Josh Taylor, which will take place at either the MGM Grand or Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. “We won’t announce (the Inoue fight) until everything is cleared for spectators.”

Arum said that despite all the issues caused by the pandemic, he is glad that Inoue will be back in the U.S. for his next fight because of the exposure it will bring him.

“He’s happy about that, too,” Arum said of the fighter.

The 28-year-old Dasmarinas (30-2-1, 20 KOs), a southpaw, is unbeaten in his last 13 fights. He owns a fourth-round knockout of Karim Guerfi in 2018 and won a unanimous decision over Kenny Demecillo in a 118-pound IBF title elimination fight in March 2019. He has fought once since then, a knockout win in October 2019.

Arum said that should Inoue, a three-division world titleholder, defeat Dasmarinas it was unclear what sort of bigger fight he would pursue.

“Who’s the big fight for him? I think he’s going to go up in weight,” Arum said, adding that was by no means set in stone.

Arum said perhaps they will revisit a unification fight with WBO titleholder John Riel Casimero, whom Inoue was supposed to face in April 2020. That bout was canceled due to the pandemic and when boxing returned Casimero went in another direction.

“We can make that fight down the line. That would be a good fight,” Arum said.

He said Inoue could also target a unification fight with the winner of the bout between WBC titlist Nordine Oubaali and former titlist Nonito Donaire, who had their mandatory bout postponed because both boxers tested positive for COVID-19 late last year. Inoue outpointed Donaire in the 2019 Fight of the Year that served as the final of the eight-man World Boxing Super Series bantamweight tournament.

Arum noted that he would be willing to match Inoue against Oubaali or Donaire but acknowledged that it would be easier to do a fight with Oubaali “because the people who have Oubaali are close to us – (adviser) MTK and (French promoter) Jerome (Abiteboul). We will discuss all of that in June when (Inoue) is over here for the fight.”
I’m gonna go to Vegas for this, need to see the gawd in person.

Longtime heavyweight veteran Bryant Jennings will get the opportunity at revenge, when he faces Oscar Rivas in a rematch on June 18 in Montreal. However, the venue for the clash has not yet been determined.

The two boxers will collide in the first ever WBC title fight in the bridgerweight division - a new weight division the sanctioning body recently created. The weight limit spans from 200 to 224-pounds.

"After Oscar's victory on March 16, I mentioned that the fight against Jennings was shaking up the sleeve," promoter Yvon Michel told Mathieu Boulay of The Montreal Journal.

"Based on the lack of interest in from the Jennings camp, we spoke with Kevin Lerena's promoter, Rodney Berman. Lerena is ranked number 2 [at bridgerweight].

“The WBC even sanctioned the fight. However, the Jennings clan, Top Rank and the ESPN network returned to the table to strike a deal.”

At the start of the negotiations, Jennings wanted a large amount of money to face Rivas. According to the paper, ESPN decided to accept Jennings' initial request.

“I received the signed contract from Jennings in the last few hours. As for Rivas, he will sign it on Friday at our office. It will finalize everything," Michel said.

The two boxers collided for the first time on January 18, 2019 in New York State. It was a very close fight, with Rivas rallying in the late rounds to stop Jennings in the twelfth and final round of action.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
Spence is not fighting enough this is ridiculous. He should be getting 3 in a year still

Man, Spence is my favorite current fighter but dude moves funny style. He should/could be a way bigger fighter with his fan friendly style but he doesn’t fight enough when healthy, only fights on PPV like he’s a mega star, and he doesn’t seem to do the little things to really ensure he puts on a spectacular performance. No strength and conditioning coach, no nutritionist, etc. But will get on Twitter after the fight and say he knows he needs to add them to his camp :gucci:. Then fukking do it! If he stopped both Garcia’s (which I think he could have with a full legit camp) all this big shyt he’s talking about 147 looks entirely different. Floyd was old by boxing standards when he had that last Showtime deal and yet he was fighting way more frequently than these dudes. I really don’t get it.

Opinions split on the use of them.
On the one hand there are those who argue it's legit science that can be applied to boxing and show results on the other hand there are those who say it's a bit of a hype, smoke n mirrors thing that doesn't really work in practice but fighters do nevertheless cause most of them try to take any possible advantage.

The truth is probably between the two somewhere. Nutritionists can be useful for making weight, keeping healthy but SnC coaches got somewhat overrated during the years. For us to say it works it needs proof that it does, now this is not a measurable thing but in my and many others opinion fighters didn't have a worse stamina when they didn't have SnC coaches decades back, I don't see the change or if I do I see older fighters a bit more fight fit.
SnC coaches are probably not the only factor in this but one of them, they didn't push fighters' fitness to a whole new level at least for all the supposedly scientific talk.

There were assistant trainers back in the days too but they were no SnC coaches, the trainer kept tab on every aspect of the preparation, I guess the SnC wave coming along gave trainers an opportunity to get off a chunk of their work dose so they were like "why not...",when there were no SnC coaches the trainer did what the SnC coach does now just not on a (supposedly) scientific base. I don't want to be a denier of science but I really just don't see the big improvement SnC guy brought with them... I don't say they hurt boxers' preparation but nothing else other than doing part of the job that the trainer did all the same decades back.

And Spence as an example for the use of them? Spence has a great stamina, dude can fight for days... He didn't just outpoint the 2 Garcias because he didn't have SnC trainers and nutritionists. If anything Spence is an example why you can be alright without them imo.
