He's a real problem in that ring. He can really put his punches together when he wants. But I have a feeling his showboating might get him hurt or taking an L
Sometimes he took unnecessary shots especially when he was trying to rest against the ropes but otherwise a good performance.
I liked what I’ve seen from Hitchins a lot too, very sharp jab, fast hands and he fought smart.
Shakur looked somewhat stationary and slower than usual but he still got an easy win, I think it was rather his approach. He pressed Clary, but still maintained a good defense.
I find it interesting that most of the up and coming American prospects use some kind of a half guard (including the Philly shell) or at least a hybrid. Shakur, Colbert, Hitchins, Ennis, Tank, Haney, Lopez... just the top of my hat. Vergil Ortiz being one of the exceptions who don’t.
is this an intentional thing? Like do coaches in the US teach kids boxing that way and not the traditional hands up approach? Or it’s just the fact that all those fighters who I listed are mostly counter-punchers and/or boxers where a half guard really gives itself?
