New interview with Vince Gilligan the gawd. The whole thing is good but this part in particular piqued my interest:

Better Call Saul Boss Vince Gilligan Teases Breaking Bad Easter Eggs and a Darker Season

:wow:

Fred.

i read the whole thing, very good interview :leon:

it's crazy to me that them dudes really was trying to make this 75% comedy and 25% drama :skip: if that's the case you can't have a character like Chuck

plus the humor on this show is mad subtle, it doesn't come across as a comedy at all to me

Well, they meant a long ass time ago when the show was just an idea. They originally said it would be a comedy, they even said it might be 30 minutes long like a sitcom. Then when they started writing the show it became obvious that wasn't possible.

They kinda did the same thing with "Breaking Bad". Not that it was gonna be a comedy, but there was a bunch of ideas they had (like killing Jesse in season 1) that never made it past the planning stages. Also "Breaking Bad" was originally about 100x darker before Vince Gilligan let some of his writers talk him out of it. His son was gonna die in season 2....Skyler was gonna commit suicide, etc.

Nah....there was gonna be a drug lord (possibly Tuco) that killed Jesse....for revenge Walt kidnapped him and had him locked up a house in the middle of nowhere. He'd routinely torture him but he gave him the option of killing himself because he had a shotgun hooked up to a cord, so he could pull it and kill himself whenever he wanted.

His son was gonna follow Walt one day to see where he goes when he disappears, he was gonna find the house and after Walt left he was gonna try to help the guy escape, not knowing what was going on....and the guy was gonna pull the cord and kill himself, and Walt's son.

As far as Skyler, she was originally gonna be on the run with Walt in that cabin from season 5. She was gonna lock herself in the bathroom after they got in an argument....Walt was gonna go up to the door and try to talk to her....water comes from under the door, mixed with blood....he breaks down the door and she was gonna be dead in the bathtub from slitting her wrists.

Like I said....if the other writers hadn't talked him out of it, the show would've been 100x darker.

Fred.
