Strawman argument you’re making. Saying that storylines shouldn’t take precedent over the actual quality of battle performance is not saying storylines shouldn’t exist at all. Stop reaching.
Storylines take priority over everything in every sport. That's the majority of every sports show and how leagues try to boost sales

Of course it SHOULDNT be ljke that but expecting battlerap to succeed where every other sport failed is silly, this is what sport in general has become

What we doing with Ace Amin? Obviously one lost shouldn't derail his career or anything. But this is a huge loss with all the shyt talking leading up to it for him to choke in litteraly every round.

Who would yall give him next?

And who should Swamp get next? I say Swamp vs Young Kannon.

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, please don’t sit here and lie to nikkas

If you don’t win, you don’t even enter the tournaments as a team.

“Fukk ya popularity if you don’t win over here”
The sport is built off of that principle.

It doesn’t mean they don’t promote their teams either, just so we clear.

Popularity doesn’t get you into national teams as a player out there, period

This logic still doesn’t hold up.

Professional sports may have storylines , true enough...but guess what...their participants are also held to PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE STANDARDS by the organizations that employ them and the fans that buy tickets to see them play. Battle rap leagues and battle rap fans have the right to the same and should exercise it.

You think Lebron would still be getting nationally televised games and big contracts if he kept stinking it up game after game over a long period of time? Hell no.

And if you’re a league owner or fan who consistently pays dudes for two rounds and recycled bars...you’re a sucka. Simple.

ace and jakboy gotta get bushes status for the foreseeable future. prolly wont because they talk good shyt, but at some point these wwe promo guys shouldnt be rewarded for underperforming in actual battles.

I agree with jakkboy. I'm sure Ace is already booked for his next battle though. You know they be booking 2/3 battles at a time.

Battle rap isn't a pure sport though. Wins is not what drives it because it's such a subjective genre. You can't argue goals scored in football, but for the most part you can argue who won a battle.

So battle rap is more akin to the entertainment genre than to sports, hence why storylines, popularity and so on matters so much in battle rap. it's still a "battle" so having some kind of storyline to go with why we see two mc's squaring up is a plus , especially seeing how big of a deal angles are in battle rap (Hitman vs Verb for example)

Granted battle rap is pretty much the closest to what we may consider the purest form of Hip Hop. seeing that we adhere to the rules moreso than industry rap; being exposed as to having a ghost writer is a career killer in battle rap, lyricism is still a focal point of battle rap...you can't mumble rap/harmonize your way to winning a battle. But it still boils down to being able to entertain as a battler, especially now that the stages and audiences have grown bigger.

Only was in the league due to his story mainly
A lot of lower level players on the brink of being out the league the same
The greats are the greats but Cortez type nyggas can benefit greatly from a story
