True in the recent era, the URL era.

Rex battled more and has taken all sorts of opponents - from Okwerdz, to Arsonal, Math, Clips, St. Louis rappers, practically anybody worth mentioning. He did lose some of them, but he did it for the culture.

Mook did more for the old Smack DVD era, but even then battle rap was not reaching the masses as it does today. So, if you consider that Rex has generated more interest via YouTube and promotion, I'd say he did more than Mook. Not to mention that Rex and Math battle (the first one) practically birthed URL and gave it credibility in a time when GrindTime had the battle game on lock.
That's the thing though, Rex DIDN'T generate more interest and promotion than Mook did. Damn near no one has outside of Lux.

So, it doesn't look like the Philly guys quite get it yet.
There are 7 threads involving Philly battlers on the 1st page. They are active again, it's cool to have them back. But it's clear at this point that they waited TOO LONG to come back.

Eness' progression has been interesting. The guy has been very entertaining.

Although not from Philly, seeing Iron Solomon's progression in this era has been interesting. He's just been a professional. Just watching his battle against Bmagic, he doesn't really sound dated anymore.

I would still like to Serius take that leap. I'll admit, I haven't watched the teewhy battle. Probably never will either.

E Ness is pretty much back to stay, his entertainment value is high regardless of win or loss. But the other guys aren't impressing me.
Iron Solomon is arguably top ten active right now. Who saw that coming?

Not sure I (or many of the regulars in here) will agree with this piece.

No problem, I can respect that. I think Lux did great in 3 out of his 4 recent battles - legendary against Calicoe, excellent vs. Hollow, wack against Mook, good vs Clips.

Mook was bad against Solomon, but there were 5 long ass rounds, which would be a hard task for anyone. He came back against Lux and did his thing and put himself on the pedestal again.

Both kept their credibility and don't have to accept every battle thrown their way. Same goes with Hollow, who chooses only top tier battles, not some xyz from Don't Flop.

Altogether? I still think Rex pushed URL more than Mook. Mook has one URL battle and a snoozefest at that, the other battle was on Total Slaughter. He contributed nothing to the URL, other than the fact that other top tier battlers keep callin' his name out and he is waiting for a big paycheck from Smack. I don't even see how Mook promoted URL other than being in a cypher, a battle and a guest in the audience.

If we are talking battle rap in general and as a whole, then I agree - Mook is far more popular and created a bigger buzz.

Solomon top 10 active? Slow down :francis:

He was good vs Daylyt but he was still coming with the sing songy flow.
But he was great vs Diz & B Magic.
Name 10 better active battlers right now.

A lot of these guys just aren't consistent enough to take seriously.
I'll try to make a list of people who have consistently been putting on recently.

Tay Rock
Ave
Bigg K
T-Top
Danny Myers
Arsonal
Hollow
Diz
Head Ice
Rum Nitty
Iron Solomon
Suge

Who else has been consistently putting on vs top shelf talent?

Chilla, Danja, DNA & Chess came into this year strong, but have been oversaturated or inconsistent. Even if you like B. Dot he still needs one or two more to be up there. If Brizz brings it vs Suge he deserves top 10 consideration. Ave hasn't faced all top shelf but he's given us 9 straight dope rounds on URL.

Am I missing anyone?
