Someone in unbias said Rex done more for battle rap than mook

True or false?
Depends on how you look at it.

Fact of the matter is Mook changed the game and influenced a lot of cats, especially current top tier cats, no matter how much people hate on him. And there's a reason Mook is still looked at as the GOAT or one of the contenders despite only battling, what, twice in the last five years.

Rex did "more" only from the standpoint that he just kept battling. Rex was never as big as Mook, despite being a legend in his own right, and there actually being an argument that can be made (not by me though :whoa:) that Rex is in the contention for the all-time greatest.

I'm a bigger fan of Rex than Mook, but let's be real here. If we were to give ONE battler credit for everything we have now, it would be Mook. What Rex did could have been done by another high level battler. Mook has all the influence.

Depends on if the question is who had more influence or has done more for the culture?

Mook definitely had more influence on Battle rap, Rex has put in more work tho

Facts. Rex done more for battle rap then Mook did.
Tough to say. Mook had some singular efforts that ended up igniting and catalyzing battle rap, and it's hard to say whether he created those situations, or was a benefactor of very good timing (the youtube swell + Smack DVD). Rex's efforts were more cumulative and are no doubt a result of his own efforts to stay relevant and on the scene a few times a year. I can't point to any single thing Rex did for battlerap, but by remaining on the stage for this long, he kept the crack talk, real talk, etc a relevant approach for the veterans and the new dudes who wanted to get in that lane.

We need some strong ass cards. My interest in battle rap is at an all time low right now. It fluctuates, but it has never been this bad.

It's not any leagues fault. You have the URL that started the year really well. It isn't there fault about the venue. KOTD is KOTD. QOTR is so bad, I unsubscribed. The small leagues could step up though.

The podcasts are pretty much :trash:

The youtube channels aren't interesting to watch (I'll watch unbias though).

The activity here is the lowest it's ever been. The way things are going, I won't be back in here until July 9th.

True or false?

True in the recent era, the URL era.

Rex battled more and has taken all sorts of opponents - from Okwerdz, to Arsonal, Math, Clips, St. Louis rappers, practically anybody worth mentioning. He did lose some of them, but he did it for the culture.

Mook did more for the old Smack DVD era, but even then battle rap was not reaching the masses as it does today. So, if you consider that Rex has generated more interest via YouTube and promotion, I'd say he did more than Mook. Not to mention that Rex and Math battle (the first one) practically birthed URL and gave it credibility in a time when GrindTime had the battle game on lock.

To me, battle rap became oversaturated. Too many new names, new battles, new leagues, new cards. Too much to keep a genuine interest in it. When Smack had 2 major events per year, that was enough. KOTD supplemented with their own cards and that was all I needed. Now we got 2 on 2 battles with corny gimmicks and props, looks more like a theater play than an actual battle.

I agree and disagree. There is a ton of new talent coming and going, but that's a necessity. The pool of dudes who kept us entertained got older/unfocused/dated and too common. The new talent replenishes that, but only 10% of them actually shake out.

As for the idea that the URL 2 major cards a year, nah, I can't get with that... especially when the events started to come in at a solid B/B- and the talent was the from the same group of dudes. One of the best things that has happened in battlerap in the last 2 years is URL having these Born Legacy-type of events. Almost every last one of us in here are have money on someone being the "next-up," and like it or not, these hungry dudes are coming with more bars, aggression, performance, everything than the vets.
