honestly, i think ultimate madness' purpose changed drastically after UM3, especially with Rum and Geechi damn near headlining that card instead of opening. No it's not an awful take, because a NOME battle actually improves your profile tenfold. Don't add the part of "and a NOME battle" as one of the rewards to getting to the finals of the tournament, if you can lose in lower rounds and still get on a NOME stage. It takes away from the finalist. I'm sure they're not crying about it, but I wouldn't like it and I'm sure they don't either. A nikka that got beat in the first round is on NOME, that's crazy.
And I'm a staunch URL defender, but I'm also fair in criticisms. I would call anyone out for this.
before, i think your point stood a lot firmer with UM1/UM2 (we can argue Fonz' stature didnt really grow after UM1 but thats moreso to him having a string of personal issues directly after)
but after UM3 introduced top tiers/nome-level talent already, UM4 being full of people nobody really gave a fukk about, and KOTD Grand Prix upping the grand prize to 100k, UM5 now is just the URL tournament. If someone like a swamp or sheed happens generates buzz for themselves a la Holmzie/Cortez/Jakkboy, the tournament did its job nowadays instead of getting people tastes of the big stage.
also, we got mfs in the tournament that people are already come out for like the geechi's, rum nitty's, twork's, etc etc. NOME is also back to being a big name event instead of rewarding people who did solid all year (no reason why Drugz shouldn't have his first NOME this year)
tldr: tried to tell yall URL does not move with an iota of sense
