No it's not an awful take, because a NOME battle actually improves your profile tenfold. Don't add the part of "and a NOME battle" as one of the rewards to getting to the finals of the tournament, if you can lose in lower rounds and still get on a NOME stage. It takes away from the finalist. I'm sure they're not crying about it, but I wouldn't like it and I'm sure they don't either. A nikka that got beat in the first round is on NOME, that's crazy.
And I'm a staunch URL defender, but I'm also fair in criticisms. I would call anyone out for this.

You're way too stuck on how the battlers personally feel about it. That was just one aspect I brought up that could potentially annoy them, but neither one of us know them, so we're just speculating on whether they care or don't. So take that part out of it and deal with facts
Letting people who lost earlier in the tournament still get the privilege of battling on the card undermines the value of the tournament. There's literally no way to argue around this FACT. Because someone like JC especially could've forgone this whole tournament, and not have to bust his brain for 6 weeks, take on 4 battles to POTENTIALLY earn 100K. That's the other part you're ignoring, they're battling for the CHANCE to win 100 K, but one of them is not getting that. One of them is going home with potentially nothing or a miniscule performance fee amount. When JC could've just not done the tournament, and battled Surf on NOME and got 20K guaranteed.
Again, you're taking one part of the argument and building your entire case of it being an awful take around how the battlers feel. That was literally one small aspect of the argument, and very inconsequential of my macro argument. The bigger point is getting a NOME battle after losing in a tournament where one of the rewards is a NOME battle, literally undercuts one of your selling points for entering the tournament. LOL. This isn't a difficult concept to comprehend. It's not the end of the world, URL is not a shytty company for this, JC and Swamp aren't gonna die because of it, but it's just an observation using logic.JC writing for swamp:
