The only point I went to wikipedia for was to explain Lex Jr. That's it.

The only thing I personally think was sloppy was the Dream sequence, but that's lending itself to the larger picture so whatevs and how easily Lex rolled the guy in the chair into doing his bidding as well as the Senator's lackey initially giving him access to anything he wanted without restriction. Everything else we can agree to disagree on that. I don't understand how you thought Supes was lifeless. He's not supposed to be Deadpool or even Captain America. That cat has never been the dude throwing out speeches at people. He's a boy scout that relies on actions. Always has been. I liked the way they did the JLA. It was a hell of a lot better to me than adding in 10 seconds clips after the credits of each movie for years.

I don't think what I pointed out was flaws nor do I say that it was one of the most complex movies I've ever seen, but this all ties into why I said the audience (Americans) are simple as shyt especially as it pertains to comic book movies. They need films to follow a specific archetype, they need the hero/heroes, they need the villains, they need the villain to do something directly to the hero to spur the conflict or have the lines be specifically drawn, then lastly it all needs to be wrapped in a simple bow. Let's take Marvel's movies as an example Iron Man (Stane wanted control of the company. Stabs Tony in the back. Tony comes back with an Iron Suit), Capt. America (US vs Nazi/Hydra), Avengers (Avengers vs Thanos/Loki), Deadpool (Deadpool vs. Those people that cured him, but took his face). For the majority of this movie if you came in blind, and not a Bats or Supes stan, your version of who the villain was (Bats/Supes/Lex/The Senator) could depend on your own personal barometer of right and/or wrong vs. what they were doing. The majority of the people that I've heard complain the most about this movie being "terrible" was mad because there was no clear winner in the Bats vs Supes fight AND the 2nd most complaint is it didn't have any jokes. They're at fukking war. It's not supposed to be funny. How can those be the primary complaints if they ARE paying attention to the characters or the story? One is at the end of his rope and the other is judged no matter how much good he's doing.....it's funny you seem more upset by my last point when studio execs think the audience is dumber than I do. How do you think we got to the point of blockbusters (primarily comic book movies) or oscar bait being the movies they only really fund anymore? Formuliac sequels, reboots from nostalgic franchises, whitewashed casts, "original" ideas are just remakes from foreign films, market testing that always results in making the movie more vanilla. People in this country will watch a film just because it has a familiar name....and those are the folks you want to defend? Nah.

God damn :wow:

But how does "not what I want to see" = bad?

It wasn't what I wanted to see. However, I thought they executed it well imo. I like the idea that these characters actually get to improve in future movies instead of being ready made characters. This allows an arc. We saw hyper violent angry Batman....now he'll evolve.

If this was the only movie ever made with these characters I get it. There is far more story to tell.
It's not bad because it's not what we want to see it's bad because most feel it wasn't executed well. A lot of people, myself included, felt the movie didn't do enough to make us care about the characters. It was like they assumed we should care because we know versions of the characters then had the characters act nothing like the versions we know. I think that is where the confusion of not what I wanted =bad comes in. If what we are given isn't enough to make us care we start comparing to what we could have gotten.

You are assuming things about future movies instead of taking the story at face value. A movie should tell a story that is satisfying even if you never watch anything about those characters in the future. Also you don't need multiple movies to show a character evolve and have a story arc. Batman begins, Ironman 1, 2 and 3 and even Thor had their character go through an arc where they weren't the same person they were at the start of the film by the end. It also seems crazy to give the film credit for the character evolving in future films when 1 of the title characters is dead at the end of the film. It's a safe assumption that he's coming back but again if this is the only film I watch with this version of this character why should I care about him or be satisfied with his story arc?

Edit: While this movie is not nearly that bad, the last Fantastic four movie had the same problem of setting the characters up to be more interesting in a future movie. Film makers need to understand that for a casual film goer if you can't make them care about a character in one movie they aren't trying to see a second.

if the movie is so great then tell my why it's going to fall way short of a billion despite having such a huge opener. tell me why it has the 7th highest domestic opening ever but might not crack the top 40 when it's all said and done.

what's the reason you think? why have the legs on this movie been so abysmal compared to other big time tent-pole films?

Its a well written article :wow:

That look on his face after that Granny's Peach Tea scene. :mjcry: Legit deserves a MJ smiley meme :heh::wow:
This is why I say Justice League has to deliver OG Superman. After all this to finally become who he's suppose too :ohlawd:

After reading the article, I was :wow: at how DC makes their characters more than one dimensional action buffs.

The amazingly low reviews from the critics really got the ball rolling. Since then you got people saying it's the worst movie they ever seen :heh: hyperbole like a mutha

They dropped the ball. Thats all there is to it. And this is coming from someone who kinda liked the movie. But wb dropped the ball. Having your universe start out with a mixed recieved movie, "man of steel", then a movie that might be even more poorly recieved, "batman v superman". Thats not a good look. They got a long way to go to catch up with marvel

Why do they have to "catch up" with Marvel? They're 2 movies in and Marvel is on number 13 i think, it's impossible for them to "catch up" :heh: they should just focus on making good movie and let the GA have a say in who's better when it's all said and done, which could be in a couple years or 10+ no one knows except father time. They've been making CBMs for forever and that's how long they're going to be around as long as the movie industry is booming

This is the thing I hate when people compare the MCU to the DCEU. MCU is in, what phase 3? And DCEU has just started. They still have movies planned (Batman trilogy, MoS 2, SS 2) that aren't even on the schedule.

It's decisive but I'm not sure it's really a bad thing. I'm down for superhero movies no matter which publishers the IP belongs. I do however like DC's serious approach more than Marvel's. That doesn't mean one is better than the other, imo :yeshrug:
