Los Ingobernables de Sala de Cine
This Forbes article is front page on my sgalaxy6's news page right now.
i guess we'll see what boxofficemojo's total tally is tomorrow, but this kinda surprised me simply b/c foreign markets (i thought) typically flocked to anything big budget that has flashy lights, cgi and brand names attached.. regardless of quality (john carter, battleship, etc).
The thing about Asia is that audiences there don't really resonate with grim, darker movies. They go to the theater to be, quite literally, entertained, which is why a movie like this that has sort of a serious dark tone falls flat over there. Wouldn't be the first time either, when The Dark Knight was running the box office all over the world it got washed in Japan by anime movie Ponyo On A Cliff By The Sea and after a week even lost territory to that shytty Mummy sequel with Jet Li in it. Although there's a market for it, "dark" just doesn't really sell that well in Asia.
