The Russo's did a better job with Thor and Guardians in infinity war as characters and as action stars than Taika and Gunn did with the characters in their own movies. In fact all three of them except Taika, have made bad moviesIron man 2, Guardians 2)
Much of IM2 was forced on Favreau so that's a bit unfair.
Also Gunn wrote lines for the Guardians in Infinity War.

I agree that GOTG2 could have been better but remember the Russo's did not write their MCU scripts.
Gunn writes his own and sometimes that creative burden makes it harder to remain fresh.
