It surprised me too. The Arrow pilot alone had more people of color than Smallville did in 10 seasons.

In season two they were more subtle with it (Diggle after going undercover, saying the person of color was successfully able to obtain drugs, sarcastically referring to his alter ego as Oliver's black driver, etc). They've reduced Diggle in the third season to giving Oliver relationship pep talk, its pathetic.

They haven't even touched the Andy/HIVE storyline yet.

Yeah the representation of black ppl in Smallville was downright disgraceful.

me and my boy used to refer to Pete Ross as "token nicca Pete" cause that's all he was.

they didn't even PRETEND that he was more than the token negro.

At least with Diggle, they drew us in, making us think that he was gonna be an equal character and major part of the series (he even had a black gf back then!) until they turned around and made him a white woman-chasing, buck dancing relationship advice giving c00n.

That might be a little harsh.... but only a little.

What's the Andy/HIVE storyline? :lupe:

You don't remember? Deadshot killed his brother Andy, that's why they had/have beef. But Deadshot only kills people he's contracted to kill and he let him know that. Makes me wonder what's Andy's backstory. But they left that storyline in the air after episode 16 of season two ("Suicide Squad").

I didn't like that they gave Diggle a white ex-wife. I'm tired of barely seeing any black couples on TV anymore. And Carly was so racially ambiguous I wouldn't even call her black. In fact I used to mistake her for McKenna (the Indian cop Oliver dated).

:whoa:

she wasn't as chocolate as Lupita, I'll give you that... but she's definitely black.

and :dwillhuh:

they turned Diggle into such a background character that I totally forgot about the Deadshot thing... smh

and remember when Oliver left him hanging when he promised him he'd be there?

that was a sign of things to come.... :wow:

can you imagine Arrow leaving Roy hanging like that? wouldn't have happened

smh. But yeah, Diggle has become a sideshow, left for awkward moments like looking at Barry Allen, and being more "freaked out" than anybody else, and going on missions without incognegro outfits on.

they'll probably write him out the series soon. :wow:

:russ: Remember how irrelevant Pete was in Season 3 of "Smallville" (the last season with him as part of the regular cast)? Dude was literally only in 1 scene in a BUNCH of episodes that season

lowkey one of the best moments in the series

I remember when I first saw that, I was :ohhh: they're going to actually talk about racial issues in a DC superhero CW show??? :blessed:

but unfortunately, it never went beyond this conversation... smh

just think of the large(r) audience they could have driven to this show if they "kept it real"

contrasted Oliver with his rich white privilege against Diggle, a member of a disenfranchised people

I think there were so many things they could have done with that

but they actually downplayed Diggle in the 3rd season too much

that's the one thing I hate

in the first season, Diggle was the go-to dude

he was backing the Arrow up on missions, he even donned the hood and bow himself on solo missions

and now he's been made a backup character

I hope I'm wrong, but it seems like he went from being a main character to the token negro in the series
The moment Roy started becoming a main character diggle became a backup.

that shyt was hardddd
what u talking bout
shyt was wack bruh.:comeon:

She looks like Janina Gavankar

They could have switched places and I wouldn't have noticed lol

I don't mind that Diggle wears regular clothes though, I don't think he should have some special outfit for missions, it would come off corny. His appeal is that he is one of the 'normal' people. He's not a vigilante.
