I love this show, but I kinda agree the FBI got dumbed down last episode. They coulda had a lot more agents looking for her, called in other agencies, etc.

It was a good episode, but I kinda see what he's saying :manny:

I just went back and rewatched the phone call/ park scene. When Martha called her parents she was at Woodley Park which is where Stan and the FBI went to go find her. Also where the Taft Bridge is.

When she called Phil she said she was at Rock Creek Park trailhead. Which is a few miles away from Woodley Park. Not hard to walk from one park to another in the half hour it took the FBI to get to Woodley Park.

I know some of you think they are dumbing down the FBI, but if the FBI wasn't looking at the right park it wouldn't be hard for Liz to walk Martha to her car and drive away. Even when Stan said to extend the FBI search 1.5 miles it he asked for them to extend it out east and west. Martha was already outside of their search area. Martha was north of them.

We also are tricked by the shows sequences shown. We don't know if by the time Stan is walking up on the bridge Martha is already picked up by the KGB? We assumed that she was still out there because they want the tension and for the the viewers to think they are going to find her. We don't know for sure.

Is this show flawed? Of course. All shows are. Is this show well written? Absolutely. Last episode was one of them too. We all assumed that they were in the same park nearby so they should have found her. We were all wrong.

:jbhmm: Is it smart of the FBI to assume the person they are looking for is going to be in the exact same spot she was 15 minutes ago.

And most people can't run a few miles in 30 minutes breh, but apparently Martha walked a few miles in 15-30 minutes?

:mindblown:why would he only asked for it to be extended East/West? Does that make any sense to you? And we shouldn't be tricked by sequences in a well written show breh.:stopitslime:

What a gut wrenching episode (don't ask me how). The honesty Philth had with Martha at the end, dear lord that woman has had a shytty life :mjcry:

RE: FBI being dumb for the way they were searching for Martha...I think the writers had two options. Make it seem like Martha was "right there" and could be caught by the FBI at any minute to add tension to her scenes - which is what happened - or actually show how far she was from the search so it would be made clear the FBI was looking in the wrong place, but that way it takes away from the drama. I'm fine the way they did it.

If her walking a couple of miles in 30 minutes is what people are going to complain about and evidence of "bad writting", that's ok. By that standard no show is ever gonna be able to avoid bad writing though :manny:

Not the vibe I got at all. The female Rezidentura agent is going to to have her killed off before she arrives in Russia.

That horny bytch :demonic: as fukk. I wonder whose instruction she's following because she didn't tell the Center they had Martha.
Arkady is gonna defect...I feel it :lupe:

Say ain't so Arkady Ivanovich DA GAWD :damn: if he only had fukked that horny bytch at the Rezidentura he wouldn't be on the outside on all these operations :francis:

They knew exactly where Martha was and she was on foot. Stan was at the bridge she was at a couple minutes earlier then she has the convo w/Elizabeth, gets punched and disappears out of no where. All in broad daylight w/the FBI trying to track down an american w/KGB ties. It doesn't mean the show is garbage overall but that was poor writing no doubt. Let me put it like this, if the writers wanted it to be that Martha was caught by the FBI would it have seemed impossible or some shyt for them to have found her that day?
its the 80s bro.

I just looked up the Taft Bridge to see if I could find a picture. It looks like the show used camera angles (and maybe CGI?) to make this:

show is great but you can point out flaws without being a hater. aint no reason for martha to have been scooped up by the KGB before the FBI got to her other than writing to help out the protagonists. They need to start taking some Ls this season thats one of my few problems with it is that they dont really take losses

Aside from the mental, physical, and emotional toll it takes on them though :mjcry:.

Phillip has been a wreck forever. Is about to lose a valuable asset and someone he connected with in Martha. Has to seduce teenagers and choke out people on the back of buses. Not even bringing up the time where he and Elizabeth had to fold up ol girl in the suitcase :bryan:. The KGB plan of recruiting young agents resulted in 2 of their agents dead, by their young son who fell in love with his handler :skip:. She got murked too. Oleg just lost his brother and Nina took a bullet to the head. I can see some points though, but it's not like the KGB stays winning and I'm willing to make some concessions because of the nature of the show. If they get caught, the show is more or less over.

Stan's boss shouldn't feel too bad, as Stan is next door neighbors to spies and doesn't even know it :pachaha:

On the action tip, The Americans is really a family drama disguised as a spy show. I just caught up on the last couple of episodes and thought all the character stuff with Martha was great. She didn't want to be alone again :to:.

Also some great facial acting, where the emotions are so clearly displayed without the actors having to say anything.

Lay It Down Liz "laying down the law" with Paige :banderas:
Liz could've also pulled Phil's card, when he said he had a hard life by mentioning that she got raped as an initiation to the espionage life.

The time jump was weird. I'm not sure I got the point. I thought it was going to end with Gaad seeing Phil and catching on to him (like Hank in Breaking Bad).

It did feel like the last episode of a season the way it ended.

I guess the point was to show that for the last 7 months the Jennings family has been living a fairly normal life and that's all coming to an end starting the next episode.

All season it's been Phil getting caught up in his emotions. Tonight it was all Liz not being able to control herself.
