I mean.. based on what ODA said.. he said haki over devil fruits.. and so with Garp seeming to have the strongest conqueror haki.. he definitely would’ve washed Akainu.. ODA also said that old age was not too much of a factor if any at all at a users haki.. so yea.. Akainu would’ve been washed

And yet Oda has never said Garp could beat Akainu. We've never seen Akainu go all out and the last time we even heard about it, he changed the climate on half a damn island. You don't know what he can do so it's all head canon until proven otherwise.

whether that be some secret stage of DF with akainu, or the factor of love/emotion to make Garp stronger.
theres a reason the man hardly goes much in depth with his power systems(DF, HAKI, rokushiki, etc) and thats to cover his behind for however he progresses things
