Here's a fun Vegapunk theory for the chapterless week. Vegapunk as villain of the Punkhead arc.

I don't find it as convincing as it is fun. I think the flashback established Vegapunk as generally a good dude. Though, maybe I could picture some of his personalities trying to overthrow the others. Either way, what makes this fun is the idea of Vegapunk's inventions vs Luffy's Cartoon Imagination. The possibilities are basically endless for a scrap like that.

I like fun theories like that. Especially when they're hella ambitious but could technically work within the framework of the story. Even if it doesn't come true, at least it's fun to spin the wheels on the idea.

Vegapunk being the villain makes too much sense. Are we forgetting the kids he helped make into Giants. Plus he seems like a cartoon character himself. He would be a good test for Luffy’s latest powerup

I feel like he's the absent-minded genius whose inventions get stolen by people with darker plans, and who doesn't notice because he's more interested in the next invention.

Basically, he makes a good invention but considers it a failure for some arbitrary reason and after he junks it, one of the other scientists (Caesar, Judge, Queen) steals the tech. The giants-formula and the gas would relate to something Punk was trying to do, but Caesar Clown is the one that applied them to darker ends. Lineage factor would have a similar function with Judge. That's at least how my head-canon has gone up to this point.

The fact he has an evil portion of his brain does make all that stuff feel a bit less coincidental though. And that test for Luffy's power-up would definitely make more sense than a rematch with Lucci to me.

I do think they set the stage for his brain to be recombined. To the point I wonder if that is Lucci’s real goal. To go there and say a phrase or something and it forces Vegapunk to use all parts of his brain including the evil part and he goes back to working for the World Government. Because everything up to now pointed to him still working for them, and if he does not work for them why doesn’t he have a bounty?

I have a feeling this is going to be a short arc like Zou. Besides introducing Vegapunk, there isn't a reason for the Strawhats to stick around. Now they know the books are on Elbaf, they have a legit reason to go there now.

I can see Vegapunk tagging along with Luffy and set off to Elbaf then the Marines claim Luffy kidnapped him

He definitely works for them, but it's not clear if he still sneaks stuff like he did at Elbaf. I was thinking he'd still have ties to Dragon considering the work he did with/on Kuma. I think the idea of combining them would be pretty dope. But Lucci was pretty explicit that they're supposed to kill the Vegapunks which made me overlook the possibility. But it wouldn't be much different from Kuma's farewell if killing him means his consciousness rather than the bodies.

Based on Lucci's dialogue, I remember thinking they were setting up for CP0 to get rid of all Vegapunk's bodies but one (that I guess would escape based on Luffy after OG Vegapunk's request). But the villain Vegapunk thing is a dope alternative possibility.

I've also been looking for a reason Usopp will have to impersonate Vegapunk just for the gag where his lies "come true" in some way.

I swear I don't trust Vegapunk.

My head canon is telling me he wants to convert people into batteries for the energy he needs like some Matrix shyt.

Interesting chapter, but I really hope we get a Kuma flashback soon.

It's a little hard for me to see Lucci as a serious threat to current Luffy but I guess we'll see what happens.
