Because it's One Piece and Oda just doesn't kill off characters like that. I wouldn't be surprised if we found out Tom was still alive (we never saw a body).

After more than 1000 chapters, I think one of the biggest things about Oda is to never take what he says at face value (at least unless it's got a clear visual co-signing it).
This is one of the rare chapters that reminds me why I skip spoilers.
Seeing Jaguar's silhouette and Robin's reactions and coming to the realizations right along with her was really awesome.
On the Law tip, I still think he's got more to add to the story. That immortality operation seems like too big an idea to get snuffed out.

We're witnessing HISTORY in the making, y'all 
We're FINALLY seeing the real Dr. Vegapunk and we're learning the history of the void century after 20 years of buildup.
Oda WOULD base this dude on Einstein, lol.
So Dragon knew Vegapunk personally and went on to create the the revolutionary army because of the Ohara incident.
On top of that, Saul is still alive. I have mixed feelings. I like seeing Nico Robin getting some focus and closure, but I'm also feeling a certain type of way because of Oda's history of fakeout deaths (Pell, Pound, etc.)
As long as he doesn't retcon the death of Ace though
I wonder how Law is doing... we all know he's gotta take the L to Blackbeard at some point.

I agree. No way Law dies, he'll take his L lose his poneglyphs but keep his devil fruit. Teach and his crew will be too broken if they take Laws fruit.

I'm rooting for the remnants of the Big Mom pirates to pull up on that scenario. They've got good reasons to go after both and they really didn't do a damned thing in Wano.
