It seems like the Brooklyn's 877,000 African Americans from 2009 American Community Survey in the census site includes black Carribean Descendants.

Also I saw a article about a Carrbean person advocating for their specific box and more options and too write in theulur specific ethnicity instead of just African American because it is messy.
I agree. That was pre Trump though when the statement was made. I think they may fear being in jeapordy of Immigration enforcement on the Upcoming 2020 census.

interesting DACA rally.

these folks are chanting "WE ARE HOME" and are saying they have equal justice under the law (aka the 14th amendment).

These plaintiffs are being supported by Princeton U and Microsoft (smh).

Listen to the rhetoric they use.

A Rising Share of the U.S. Black Population Is Foreign Born

9% of black population is US are immigrants

among the metropolitan areas with the largest black populations, roughly a third of blacks (34%) living in the Miami metro area are immigrants. In the New York metro area, that share is 28%. And in the Washington, D.C., area, it is 15%.

I did the math, so if this is correct, then there’s 1.5 mil ADOS in NYC. There’s 2+ mil black people here in NYC as a quick google search, keep in mind there’s ADOS here who end up moving to the south or to PA/CT. I don’t think that 1.5 mil is the absolute number, but the number is likely around there.

possibly. in NY there's an influx of people from Caribbean countries.
But on the flip - I see more in Brooklyn and the Bronx than other boroughs. Queens, Harlem has always been pretty static in terms of ADOS representation.
in DC and NoVA, I see more Ethiopians and Somalis than AAs, along with El Salvadoreans, Mexicans that make up the majority, no debate. But in PG County - it's vastly AA/ADOS as the majority.

@Captain_Crunch you mind showing your math? I am stumped myself.

There’s round 2,081,000 mil Black people in NYC(this is per Wikipedia and Census), if we use the 28% number you listed for black immigrants in the NYC metro area, then there’s around 1.5 mil ADOS in NYC(2.081 mil X 28%, then subtract that number w/ 2.081 mil).

Keep in mind, the 28% number is for the metro area(NYC and it’s surrounding areas) not just the city, plus a lot us have been displaced and there are 2nd gen immigrants around here.

Me personally, I think the 1.5 mil number I said is actually lower, but unfortunately we have no way of knowing the real number currently. This is another reason, why we need that ADOS distinction on census info, especially for a city as mixed as NY.

Also, don’t discount African immigrants, there’s definitely an African presence in the Bronx; Harlem(116th st and 7th ave), and Staten Island.
