:yeshrug:I think it won because of it's message about race and black culture more than sexuality. You could have made basically the exact same movie with a straight black guy and it would have held the same weight imo.

I like Moonlight, but the movie does not have a racial message. Yes, it is about black characters, but it is not about race. I also really do not like people saying that the movie epitomizes blackness and whatnot either because that is not how the majority of black people live.

School to prison pipeline. Masculinity in African American society. Single Moms and Father figures in African American boys lives.

Entire movie has themes that relate to black people.

What movie did you see?

Exactly.

Movie is more about struggling with identity, masculinity, the school to prison pipeline, drugs and socioeconomics issues.

You could replace the light skinned dude with a girl and not change anything else (even the gay name calling) and you'd still have a powerful movie that made sense.

You could put a woman in the main character's spot and change nothing about the film and it would still make sense.

Moonlight won because of fakkitry, not blackness. I'll let y'all nikkas believe that so you can keep celebrating your "cac daddy validated me" tour.
I liked Moonlight, really nice message but i swear the best "black" movies gotta have some graphic ass scenes in it

them fakkitry scenes really made me uncomfortable yo, real shyt

leave some shyt to the imagination

Finally watched Moonlight but yes it has agenda written all over it. Ali's character is the best thing about the film and he's gone by the 2nd act. It's very well made though. Excellent direction and cinematography but nah, the story is too weak and the end drags out so much it just doesn't tie it all together. Glad they won tho considering the competiton of cacs...very well made movie just didn't like the story and the agenda is definitely there.

It still amuses me that anyone would describe Moonlight as graphic. One kiss, and a 90% off-screen sexual encounter where the most graphic moment is a hand touching the sand, and it's "OMG so graphic:damn:"

It's probably one of the least graphic rated R black movies out there.

Why should a gay scene be left to imagination in a movie about a gay man? :mindblown:

There are sex scenes 1000000x more graphic than the kissing scene in Moonlight that folks have no problems with.

This movie had no graphic scenes. Why do you nikkas lie so much?:what:

I don't know why many of y'all think it's a good look to expose the fact that you're both insecure about your masculinity and sexuality.
