Got to see pay attention to the film festivals to see what good black directed films are coming out. They don't even nominate horror or action movies with white actors so Sleepless and Get Out aren't the answer. Maybe Bright might be though.

Couldnt got screenplay? Visuals? Sound? or something? Rza deserved that best Actor spot that year over that cac DD Lewis

Nope. It was a coming of age story of him never really having anyone that loves him aside from 3 people. But I think it drops the ball

It was a character study and we popped in on him at pivotal points in his life.

Aaron Sorkin did the same thing with "Jobs"

Nikkas are expecting it to have a typical structure and plot. Doesn't make it a thin screenplay because it doesn't follow the 3 act structure.

That's what I'm surprised that people are failing to see. Not that this would be how WE see the movie, but most certainly how everyone else would've seen it because there's no agenda. That's the point that's been clear as fukking day since it was released.

It doesn't have the stigma to the same degree, but check this thread. Even existing as a gay black man is considered by many in the community as being apart of an agenda. It's considered by many of those same folks as a sin against your own race. That has to hurt a large segment of young black boys, which is what this film specifically focused on.

Not really. Being FLAMBOYANT perhaps but not just being gay. The other side to it is how gay black men choose to identify and partition off their concerns for the community that makes straight men in the community focus on our own issues. Too many gay men care about the gay struggle more than the black struggle and that's where most indifference comes from next to flamboyancy.
