That's it: politics. Hollywood should make a bold statement with a Selma nomination but are they afraid of middle america?
Oh don't worry: Selma WILL be nominated, that's not the issue. But it won't WIN; its like the Departed. Many rumors were going around that it won because Marty was due his best pic oscar; not because it was the best movie, but because it was Marty's time to win. Politics runs the world and Hollywood.
Plus you have to remember that Selma depicts black activism as autonomous, not white mobilization as most civil rights movies do...white America, especially fake liberals do not like to talk Civil Rights without white heroes being at the center...that will work against Selma winning any awards, but who gives a fukk? The movie told the truth as blacks organized themselves
It brings in whites too breh but yeah it shows us being the engine. And it,l get nods that's not the question. But if it doesn't win that doesn't mean the academy is racist or scared. I want it to win cause I love the movie and think it's the best of the year but that's my opinion. There's a governing body of voters whom may feel differently. But this time last year everyone was saying Gravity and American hustle were the front runners and going to take it. Didn't happen which is why I ssy it really won't be set until February. We gotta see hoe the campaigns play out
