That's it: politics. Hollywood should make a bold statement with a Selma nomination but are they afraid of middle america?

Oh don't worry: Selma WILL be nominated, that's not the issue. But it won't WIN; its like the Departed. Many rumors were going around that it won because Marty was due his best pic oscar; not because it was the best movie, but because it was Marty's time to win. Politics runs the world and Hollywood.

Plus you have to remember that Selma depicts black activism as autonomous, not white mobilization as most civil rights movies do...white America, especially fake liberals do not like to talk Civil Rights without white heroes being at the center...that will work against Selma winning any awards, but who gives a fukk? The movie told the truth as blacks organized themselves

It brings in whites too breh but yeah it shows us being the engine. And it,l get nods that's not the question. But if it doesn't win that doesn't mean the academy is racist or scared. I want it to win cause I love the movie and think it's the best of the year but that's my opinion. There's a governing body of voters whom may feel differently. But this time last year everyone was saying Gravity and American hustle were the front runners and going to take it. Didn't happen which is why I ssy it really won't be set until February. We gotta see hoe the campaigns play out

Who said American Hustle had a chance last year? Everyone was saying Gravity was gonna snatch the award from 12 Years a Slave, but American Hustle was celebrated for best acting, not the movie itself and it had no chance at winning.

This time last year breh. Read movie sites, check the history. Then once the nominations came out and it got closer to February it became 12 years a slave and gravity with the lean closer to gravity

That's another thing, it doesn't have a Pitt or Jolie in there as savior imo. The movie is much more militant, then say, the butler.

After Dave russell put in Lawrence hype took off. Everyone loves her.

Nope they are back down to 5 or 6, I can't remember; the nominees will be:

FINALLY, that 10 movie shyt was beyond stupid, that trash football movie that Bullock was in was even nominated for Best Picture :scust:

the year Dark Knight wasn't nominated had the general public asking they what movie wasn't even nominated when everyone loved it, had an oscar winning role and was so acclaimed, so they responded with this shyt

either way, Oscar wins are all political anyway, most of the voters don't even watch but a few movies anyway

Mudslinging about accuracy won't scare voters. Especially since the context is still on point. And obviously people have to give way for dramatic license and what more does Hollywood love than standing up for dramatic license?

Lol don't start that guilt thing breh. If the movie wins it'll be on its merits not because of guilt. It has the one thing going for it which I love: it encapsulates the year.

Mudslinging about accuracy destroyed Zero Dark Thirty. Granted, congress was involved, but it's chances were killed by the "negative" buzz

They can have up to 10 breh. They can nominate however many they feel in a given year with 10 as the max

It was definitely a contender after it won Best Ensemble at SAG
That doesn't mean it was a contender for best picture...it just means that the actors/actresses were major contenders for individual awards, which many of them won. Ensemble was about the actors and not the movie itself.

Normally the movie that wins ensemble at the SAG is a good shot or really good shot at winning best picture because the actors bloc is the biggest voting bloc at the oscars. And it's notmally rang true for every year but it didn't last year

I haven't seen that in the past. Like I said, the buzz was around the acting and the screenplay for wins, but I never heard anyone seriously considering American Hustle to fight Gravity or Twelve Years A Slave for Best Pic...it was a two horse race last year
