Critics are saying its ok at best, no glowing reviews on the film or performances...it may get a adapted screenplay nom, but I doubt it.
Yeah but the only three with a shot at winning are gone girl, the theory of everything and the imitation game

Gone Girl will probably win thatYeah but the only three with a shot at winning are gone girl, the theory of everything and the imitation game
Gone Girl will probably win that
Mudslinging about accuracy won't scare voters. Especially since the context is still on point. And obviously people have to give way for dramatic license and what more does Hollywood love than standing up for dramatic license?
Lol don't start that guilt thing breh. If the movie wins it'll be on its merits not because of guilt. It has the one thing going for it which I love: it encapsulates the year.
It's too relevant though to be discounted and just too damn good. And right now, I see it as neck and neck with Boyhood if not a little behind just reading prognostications and going off my gut
Gone Girl was ill. My favorite movie last year. I wish it would win best picture, I wanna see Ben put a run together.Gone Girl will probably win that
This is a good point. The black struggle theme will be prominent and Hollywood will want to say they stand with the down trodden, etc. I just hear the political right scream conspiracy if Selma get people's choice or something like that.
that's exactly what i told marty. that i'd be shocked if a black movie won 2 years in a rowBrehs I think Selma might not win anything...two 2 black movies in a row? Especially black pain?
Its too dark to win best picture...the voters don't like those types of movies as winners; Birdman or Boyhood (unfortunately) will win best picture. Selma may sneak in but the more reviews I read, the less I think Selma will contend.Gone Girl was ill. My favorite movie last year. but the reviews are saying it's THAT good
its possibly a 3 headed race now
One thing the voters look at is who made the movie as well...the director of Selma is young and on the rise, so they will overlook her and her movie and say "well, she will get one later" and give it to Birdman or Boyhood. There's alot at play for the best picture this year.that's exactly what i told marty. that i'd be shocked if a black movie won 2 years in a row

I want to see, I think it has a shot if Hollywood wants to make a statement this year, it will also help with PR about POC in movies.Fukk em. They always scream when it comes to Hollywood. But it's not like they can deny it happened. And it doesn't show that all white people are bad. In fact the film shows quite the opposite but I don't want to go into spoilers even if it is history

I want Selma to succeed, I think the early review are not the best judgement, another week. I'll say this: It's time more movies the quality of Selma are made, this year, there's no Crash. Its too dark to win best picture...the voters don't like those types of movies as winners; Birdman or Boyhood (unfortunately) will win best picture. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!! I've stricken Crash from my memory breh, don't even bring that garbage up again; I love Selma as well, but like I said, its very difficult for a young, rising director to win best picture, especially when there are movies that are just as good with celebrated people that made them. Even if Selma deserved to win, it more than likely won't because of politics.I want to see, I think it has a shot if Hollywood wants to make a statement this year, it will also help with PR about POC in movies.

Gone Girl? Yea I agree. Plus it shows women being manipulative. We can't have have that
Also I hate to say it but let's be real: winning awards is a lot like winning an election. It's about shaking the right hands, getting the right amount of publicity, and timing. It helps that brad Pitt is producing along with Oprah
That's it: politics. Hollywood should make a bold statement with a Selma nomination but are they afraid of middle america?Yes!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh don't worry: Selma WILL be nominated, that's not the issue. But it won't WIN; its like the Departed. Many rumors were going around that it won because Marty was due his best pic oscar; not because it was the best movie, but because it was Marty's time to win. Politics runs the world and Hollywood. That's it: politics. Hollywood should make a bold statement with a Selma nomination but are they afraid of middle america?
