Can someone explain to me how this goofy ass WAR is calculated for pitchers?
I'm looking at the AL leaders on ESPN and Tyler Anderson is tied for tops in the AL with Skubal (no surprise with him) at 3.5.
Tyler Anderson has a 2.58 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 8 quality starts, 58 Ks in 87.1 IP, 38 walks and a K/9 of 6.
Corbin Burnes has a 2.08 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 11 quality starts, 82 Ks in 86.2 IP, 22 walks and a K/9 of 8.5. He has a WAR of 2.0.
It can't just be because Anderson plays for a shytty team because these are Flaherty's stats with Detroit:
3.01 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 9 quality starts, 100 Ks in 77.2 IP, 11 walks and a K/9 of 11.6. He has a WAR of 2.0 (I think that's about what it'll be when it's updated after today's start).
