The Marlins had to strike with a trade of Luzardo cause he was clearly pitching away his value. I've been high on Luzardo for the last few years, but I feel like last season was just a wash with his injuries. I've never thought of him as an ACE but I think he's got the talent and a solid pitching repertoire that he should be a 2 or 3. Him being used as the 4th or 5th arm in this rotation should be a solid chance for him to shine and not carry the weight like he was expected to do in Miami. So which Luzardo are they getting?
The 2024 Luzardo? Meh. Back end of the rotation guy.
The 2023 Luzardo? Suddenly you've got one of the best rotations in the National League.
I'm not upset with the trade because Philly has to contend for a championship now. This is their window with Wheeler, Nola, Harper and Turner still really good players.
They might have to think about some outfield depth because I'm not sure they can rely on Nick Castellanos.
