Mets about to crash out for this guy

I disagree. The main number is big, but if he opts out after year 3 or 4, now instead of a 15 year guaranteed contact, you're on the hook for 4 years, and we get to do this again. He's as safe a bet as anybody to live up to his contact in the short term. If anything, it won't catch up until age 36 and up.

Of course you disagree you’re a homer

Realistically 50 aav for a trash defender who can’t run bases is dumb af short or long term. Soto is a great hitter , that’s it

A lineup with Soto, Devers and Duran is pretty strong.
I wouldn't doubt Boston as a legit landing spot.

:comeon: The Yankees losing Soto to Boston would be an absolute pr disaster. Red Sox aren’t a real option imo

You're right, I am biased, but the point still stands. Any deal will probably include an opt out after a few years, and if he performs well enough to opt out, that mega contact turns into a 4 year deal instead of 15.

Now you run the risk of him not being good enough to opt out, but nothing in his history points to that problem, and we can say the same about ohtani. Year 1 was great, what happens if he falls off a cliff performance wise in year 4

As to the point of him not being worth 50, I look at it like this. Soto's worst season, in terms of ops+, is better than Lindor and Alonso's best seasons by a mile. It's also not my money, and the billionaire team owners seem to think he's worth it.

I feel you on this.. my only issue is that the option would undoubtedly be a player option, and not team (or even mutual)

God forbid dude suffers some kind of catastrophic injury in year 2,3 or 4 then why would he opt out?

I guess I’m biased too. The other way tho. I’m all about players gettin their money.. but if it can potentially handicap my team moving forward.. then I pause.
