We got USF on the road after the Texas game, been a while since we had one of those odd road games, we went to Duke in 2010, 80% of the stadium was crimson.

At the request of the individual who shared the following information, the player involved will remain anonymous:

Florida had a strong opportunity to get involved in the recruitment of a transfer who has gone on to reportedly earn at least 15 Power 5 scholarship offers since entering the portal in mid-April. This player is a multi-year starter who would be able to reinforce a position of need for the Gators, who are yet to secure a transfer commitment in the spring cycle and have hosted just one player, former Michigan safety RJ Moten, on a visit.

According to a source directly familiar with the matter, this nationally coveted player became disinterested in Florida when he was asked to put together an evaluation tape to send to the team in order for it to determine its level of interest. The player "wasn’t interested in doing it," as he thought "maybe they didn’t fully believe in [his] playing ability."

This situation, perhaps better than any other before it, demonstrates the issue plaguing Florida's football staff. with regard to transfer portal recruiting. Moving slowly through the evaluation process could lead players not only to visit other schools and commit before the Gators even have a chance to play host (like SDSU offensive lineman Josh Simmons), but could also lead players to become disinterested before the team can even make a verbal pitch.

Determining a player's skill level and whether or not they're worth pursuing should occur after some rapport has been established, especially in cases like this one when a player is more than capable of playing for the Gators immediately based on factors such as the depth at his position and his past production, which should be apparent via game film, considering this particular player has over 20 games of experience at the college level.

As of Monday morning, Florida does not have any visits firmly on its schedule (other than Moten), according to a source. It has five vacant scholarship spots remaining on its 2023 roster.
