I have no doubt he can snipe some guys here and there around the Midwest and the south, again my thoughts are, there are some schools that just are not going to get a gang of kids no matter what, i feel that’s y’all, again i think there will be a season of reckoning one year soon where he runs the table

I'd agree I don't expect him to be able to make the playoffs or even win the B1G in the next few seasons...compete for the B1G yes, but we don't have the horses to even keep the game close with OSU at this point. I still think we will need a different D-Coordinator. Depth is still an issue, especially in the trenches. OSU can afford to have a starter or heavy rotation guy get injured and plug in another blue chipper, while the current MSU team just doesn't have that luxury.

scUM was destroying us in the trenches this past season....Our QB was under pressure almost every drop back and at least to me it felt like Cade had ALL DAY to throw. Not to mention how abysmal our secondary was (literally dead last in D1). That shyt isn't going to fly next year, there's not more Kenneth Walker III to turn a dead play in to a 60 yard touchdown run.

He's already recruiting/signing/gaining committals from prospects that are far out of the Midwest (Texas and Georgia in particular). Places that Dantonio didn't even attempt to recruit. A high 3* or low 4* from TX or GA is pretty much a high 4* or low 5* in the midwest.

I think 3 additional full recruiting cycles + hitting the portal as hard as he has + consistent 10+ win seasons can really change the narrative that MSU doesn't regularly attract blue chippers (which was very true during Dantonio's final few recruiting classes).

Dantonio proved that MSU is and can be a multiple time B1G Championship team, beat an SEC powerhouse (beat UGA) and at least get IN to the playoffs/compete nationally (which was literally thought to be impossible as recently as 2006). Mel has been tasked with taking the program to the next level which

I think you guys thrived, because We were down af, and osu was leaving a lot of Ohio meat on the bone and fighting Iowa for “their” type of guys, but long as we don’t fumble and long as that Death Star in Columbus is there it be hard to thrive, add to the fact Penn st came out of their coma

This thread reeks of urine smelled project stairways.

theres no doubt that we benefited from a down UM. But I can say in the 90s UM benefitted from a down OSU…

y’all still brought in better classes than us each year. I don’t think from an incoming talent perspective we were ever that close. Head to head for prospects, We beat y’all for some guys and y’all beat us out for guys…but I don’t think it was ever heavily in MSU’s favor.

We had really solid player development, and from 2010-2015 we really had guys buying into the family concept Dantonio build. That quickly eroded in 2016 and was never sustainable thru his final seasons.

the financial and institutional backing the program has is light years ahead of where it was when y’all completely dominated us in the early 2000s/90s. There’s no more letting Saban walk without at least offering a raise like in 99.

It’s without a doubt harder to succeed at MSU than it is at UM, OSU, PSU and especially compared to the top tier SEC teams. BUT that’s why we have our guy in place to embrace that challenge where Saban said “well it’s really hard to recruit against ND, UM and OSU every cycle”

we’ve always had PSU’s # and lead the head to head series. They’ve been in a coma with brief periods of cognizance for 30+ years

I can’t name many off top

but I know we beat yall for:

Malik McDowell
Gholston
Edwin Baker
Corley

y’all beat us out for:

drake Harris
Peoples Jones
Shane Morris

There lots some I’m forgetting…maybe I’m wrong but I think even in the grim RichRod days it was still about 50/50 for head to head battles for recruits, and overall y’all still had better classes.
