Lakers were one of the biggest stories in the nba last year and didn’t even make the play-in…but hey all that “talk” must’ve made up for it
No one is saying MSU’s program is bigger or better than ND, but ND’s PR has done a helluva job making its fans think it’s program is achieving elite levels of success despite the actual non-existence of big game wins (ie NY6/BCS bowls/playoff wins).
If y’all beat OSU this year, and win a NY6 bowl then talk all the shyt you want, but spare me the “we are always talked about even when we are bad” speech bc that’s not an accomplishment.

But you’re missing the point, ND got a “one of the most talked about programs” trophy that very same year…completely overshadowing Bama’s second straight National Title…
You need to ask yourself what’s actually important, winning, or being talked about on sports talk radio and Internet forums…

The point I was making is that, unless they step it up on the field soon, in 15-20 years they will be
. Either they have to step it up and live to the hype or join a conference to stay relevant.You are right that currently they're still talked about, probably the most, of any program. But as those old cacs die off, and the under 40 crowd turns over 40 they'll fade into the background. A lot of those old Cacs still have sway in the sports media, and still have an interest in ND. But I really don't know many younger people who take ND serious. And I've interacted with fans of SEC, B1G, ACC, and Big 12 teams quite a bit. Maybe Pac-12 fans take ND serious because of the rivalries with Stanford and USC, but most people I know who are younger than 40, or maybe even 45, all feel that ND is overrated and are tired of hearing about them all the time.

when did I say ND was elite
most ND fans under 40 know we are a tier 2 program and Alabama,Ohio state and Georgia are tier 1 but it’s a lot of fan bases talk that talk shyt that haven’t won’t a national championship since 1966
Bama Ohio state and Georgia can talk shyt about us and i will hit the 
but ND has been a top 5 to 7 program the last 7 years and as for the not wining any bcs/NY6 it is what it is just didn’t have the athletes at WR and CB that was my biggest complaint since I joined the coli and back on my Niketalk days you see what happened to y’all vs alabama and no reasonable ND fan thought we was beating bama in 2012 or 2020 
but freeman and Rees are recruiting they azz off in our biggest weakness (cb,wr and QB) so things are only going to get better

Nd is an attention grabber, and that’s always going to be, they will be an asset to any conference, they jump in, and they’ve been in two Playoffs and a national championship game, shyt that’s better than majority of ncaa power 5 programs, their path will forever be easier being independent, it’s like the cowboys, they won in the 90’s but they got fans everywhere thus they will always been on the talking shows

I just re-read the last few posts of this thread. I'm guessing that you were being sarcastic here?

Probably top 10ish.
They've been consistently good, minus a 4-8 season in 2016.
But their ceiling has been back-dooring into the playoffs getting blown out in the first round.
AAC Cincinatti did that last year, while beating ND in South Bend in the process.
tOSU, Clemson, Bama, UGA, OU, LSU all have strong arguments for being in the top 5. ND falls more into the 5-10 range, leaning closer to 10.
