@Regular_P More points I wanted to make was the lack of innovation and creativity in NHL coaching. How many opportunities are guys like AV, Pete DeDoer, and Laviolette are going get. Most times teams are gonna hire these retread coaches because that’s what they know. I wish there was a young, creative coach would be like a modern NBA coach that would use offensive sets like pin downs or “legal screens with motion offense with position less lines where guys can pass and shoot well off wing. Innovation like that would make the game fun and more interesting to watch.

Completely agree. The rigid structure of the league drives me nuts. I like the defensemen taking face-offs in their own zone idea. I think defensemen should be better utilized on offense. I'm hoping Quinn Hughes' ability to drive the puck will open eyes and change things throughout the league.

In general, I think more teams should utilize four or even five forward lines. Doesn't have to be all the time but forwards should be able to defend all areas of the ice at some point.

Basically every coach doesn't want to lose instead of playing to win.

Facts. I think the last forward that took regular shifts as a defenseman I can remember is Sergei Fedorov.

People have been talking about the lack of creativity of players for the better part of a decade. But as players and front offices have started to try and be more creative there has been absolute zero innovation.

"I'm convinced if Sergei played defense, he could have won a Norris Trophy"

and yeah there is zero innovation
the whole 3 forwards 2 dmen is meh

in like soccer you see when a team is down that they sub out like a defender for an extra forward.

Even with the specials teams situations you have the same tired ass umbrella, overload and 1-3-1 formations on the PP.

How would you guys feel about eliminating offsides to open up the ice?

@K-Apps and everyone else weigh in too.

I think they should eliminate the trapezoid, most goalies aren’t great puck handlers like Brodeur and Marty Turco. Another idea is to get rid of those sliding shot blocks. SOG and puck possession with passing should be rewarded over plodding and clutching and grabbing.
