I can’t answer that question because if he’s picked first, it’s pretty clear that there’s no commitment to keeping him long term. There’s no real interest in selecting a player in the hopes that he becomes a star. The hope is that if and when some star gets pissed and wants out that there’s value in Ball to move him for whoever that star is.
It’s a super risky strategy that will most likely fail because of Ball, but they probably assume (rightfully) that Wiseman or whoever won’t be of value to a team looking to trade a star (for example, Philly won’t want Wiseman in a deal for Simmons: they have Embiid. Phoenix won’t want him for Booker; they have Ayton. They MIGHT be interested in Ball). Drafting Ball is gonna be treated like stashing a Euro.
obviously like plenty of lotto teams, trading down should be plan A. IMO plan B should be between Wiseman and Hayes with nobody’s feelings on that roster mattering anymore.
