I only caught the last twenty minutes of the show, but did anyone else feel like they were pandering or disingenuously pushing the diversity and need to be inclusive. It just came off as forced and phony.

Bro, you don't have to defend everything man. The same arguments you're making for her you could make for a million hip hop artists and R and B artists over the past decade and they never get that. Sometimes the majority is right. Goodness.
AND I like Kacey. She has talent. But keep it consistent with these shows is all people ask for.

I actually have heard of her. But if you ask the average person who she is, they wouldn't know. Her being known in music circles doesn't mean anything.
Everybody lost their shyt a few years ago when Beck won. He's actually been in the game since the 90s, but on that night, going up against people like Sam Smith and Beyonce, it was like a new artist that no one had ever even heard of won.
Those lyrics aren't supposed to be taken literally. What the Grammys does is they advertise all these big names to draw ratings, not have them win anything, but instead give certain awards to those "critical darlings."
That mentality is why hip hop has only won Album of the Year twice.

Family. Cut it out. When pop stars win it's because of their popularity. When Rock or Country win it's critical acclaim. The Grammys award whichever white friendly artist they want to every year. The country fanbase spans generations. Old people to young people listen to it, and her.
Remember, this is the Grammys.
And country music is "huge" among white certain demographics of white people. Hip Hop and pop are clearly more universal if we're going that route. Taylor Swift literally could not tour Europe until she went pop. Grammys are supposed to be the best music worldwide. Cut the bullshyt.
The Grammys basically went "woke" this year and then ended it off by giving it to a woman because last year people complained about not enough of them in the main category. If there was ever a year where a dude should have won when music was dominated by men sans Cardi....this was it.

It's not about defending it (I didn't think she'd win). I wasn't the one rating her album high. A lot of publications did though, so her winning wasn't a huge shock, but to us, who don't acknowledge shyt outside of hip/hop and R&B, we're gonna feel a way. And given who was nominated, the only nominee that could have won without pissing off this board woulda been H.E.R. and she didn't have the best album of the year.
