He was horrible at the 3, hes clearly a 4

I'm not talking about how bad he was. I watched games just like you did. I'm talking about needs. There not bring Pau off the bench after a career year so stop it. If we don't bring in a reliable 3 this off season the spot is his

Why would he get it over Snell? Snell is a better 3 than Niko

Ed Davis declined to outline the terms of his preferred contract in length and dollar amount. But a league source familiar with his thinking said he will seek a two or three-year deal worth $7-8 million a year, or a one-year deal worth $9-10 million. And Davis sounded eager to make up for lost earnings after experiencing a five-year career that he called “up and down” that he chalked to “bad luck.”

i hope no GM is dumb enough to pay Davis that money :scusthov:

he played well and deserves a decent deal but no way id pay that :ld:
:yeshrug: Depending on how the Lakers FA goes, I think Lakers will keep him and he wants to stay. He can play the four and the five, he's more of a backup, but he can play spot minutes/games as a starter if someone is hurt. He is a nice team defender, good off the pick N roll, nice weakside blocker. He may not stretch the floor, but is he that much worse than say Tristan Thompson or Kenneth Faried who can't stretch the floor, but are getting paid (Tristan is going to get paid big). With the cap going up, 7-8 mill is going to be the going rate for backup bigs.

I dont disagree in your assessment of him. I think he's a solid player. Its just kinda hard for me to put a figure on contracts this off-season and into the future. Cap numbers havent been projected to increase so dramatically before so Im confused about it. Normally id say 5m a year is fair for a guy like him..I guess with inflation of the cap what he is asking for isnt too crazy but I personally wouldnt do it. Id be confident enough in finding a backup big off the scrap heap or in the draft rather than dishing out that dough for a good player but not a game changer. Hes a 2nd/3rd big off the bench on a good team if he plays his best..With that said, Lakers declined Hill at 9m so I dont see them paying Ed 9m but who knows. I dont think Lakers will offer more than a 1 year deal, if at all, and certainly will exhaust other options first to utilize that $.

I thought 4/48 was fair for Tristan..and Faried's contract is going to be a bargain with the cap raise if this is the going rate for players.

The Phoenix Suns for instance smartly resigned the Morris Twins to bargain contracts before the cap raise, I believe Markieff is making 8 mill, and his brother Marcus is making a bit less than him. Practically every free agent is going to get overpaid by 4-5 million more they would be usually worth. I believe the cap is going to be close $100 million starting next season. Lakers are going to go after Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge, Goran Dragic, and DeMarre Carroll. I could see DeMarre Carroll, who they think could be a Rick Fox type of veteran to get for a young team that will still be productive once the team is a viable threat. More than likely they won't get any of them, maybe Goran if the Heat don't want to pay him close or at the max contract he wants. I wouldn't mind Love, but Lakers should just roll with Randle at the 4, who is on his rookie contract, no need to stunt his growth, and its better for Love to stay on a contender. No way LaMarcus will really even consider the Lakers. Lakers might give Davis a Jordan Hill type of contract, I think he is nice. He is better suited to pay once you got your main core pieces, but you gotta start somewhere. :yeshrug:

Lakers can give 5 years, but he won't get those years. He wants 8-9, but if he can settle for 6 mill at 3 years here sounds much more reasonable. If they don't resign Ed Davis, they still have Tariq Black who is a younger and cheaper option.

I believe you can only give out one 5-year contract in the new CBA on your roster, so not sure if the Lakers want that to be Ed Davis. He is a nice player, but Lakers may have a logjam at the 4/5 and need to add talent at the wing positions. Preferably a 3 years 18-21 would be more ideal, but it would be better used once they sign FA's and go over the cap to resign him, but he would have to wait a few days during free agency. Lakers want to make sure there is as much cap space as possible they can use once they target Durant next season & Westbrook in 2 years. They won't get Durant, but if Durant leaves OKC, Westbrook would seem more than likely to bounce for his own team to be the "guy" in LA and Lakers would more than likely be the assumed favorites for him.

I'm a huge ed Davis fans he is my fav underrated FA this season. I hope he goes somewhere where he can get more minutes, not stuck behind randle and Jahlil.
