He might still start. Don't know what Donovan will do but he could still start Adams & bring in Kanter to eat with the second unit while staggering minutes with KD & Russy.

He can become good, don't think he'll ever be great at it but shouldn't be a team killer like Kanter's defense is.

Randle and Okafor front court sounds awful defensively
Wouldn't both teams that will theoretically draft Towns play him at the 5 even though he seems to be a natural 4?

A Randle/Okafor frontcourt is a disaster waiting to happen on defense, look at Favors and Kanter for example, Favors is a + defender and even he wasn't good enough them from having an ass team defense.
Towns is what the new age PF is moving towards, which is in 3 years I expect Towns to be shooting 3s as well as posting people up. I think his best position in the NBA will be PF next to a big center, and when his team goes small ball he'll be the 5.

Will it hurt his growth to be playing the 5 early on in his career or do you think it is necessary until his shot becomes more consistent?
I don't think it would hurt, but I think his best position in the NBA will be PF, especially with a lot of teams going small and the fact he should be able to defend those guys while being able to post them up on the other end. I give him a couple of years before he's shooting 3s at a solid percentage and posting people up on the block, Lowe had a piece the other day where the new wave of PFs are going to be able to shoot 3s and post up.
There are still a lot of abnormally big muthafukkas playing center, and the Hawks are probably going to bring over their massive center for next summer. The position is starting to upsize again.
Kanters defensive issues aren't skill based , it's experience. The dude is awful with realizing pnr coverage and who to switch on. Fam, he sucks on defense and it's his lack of lateral quickness and jumping ability, he was playing next to Gobert and Favors in the frontcourt and was still awful.

He's actually a good one on one defender, like I said the main issue is him being late on rotations where u don't have to be quick on. Hell al jefferson and zbo aren't good defenders either. Favors isn't a great defender either.
