Actually you don't know that because it was under a totally different system. It's based on a human panel now so you can't extrapolate results that way.

Alabama woulda made it based on the computers. And computers can't tell the difference between a flukely loss and an actual loss. I think a human panel woulda given the 2013 Alabama squad even more benefit of the doubt. They were the defending champs. They dominated the SEC the whole season. And they were #1 the whole season, not Florida State contrary to revisionist history now. They really dominated the game with Auburn as well. They were easily the best team that season IMO. Given how flukey that loss was, the playoff panel woulda definitely given them the benefit of the doubt. 2013 Alabama with 1 loss woulda been a LOCK.

the bigger question is who woulda been #4?

Not only that........THEY WOULD BE CONFERENCE CHAMPS unlike the 2nd SEC team

conference champ means nothing if you have 2 losses. and your conference is not perceived to be very strong. only the SEC West (not even the entire SEC) can really withstand a 2 loss champ making the playoff over 1 loss non-champs.

its very likely that last season, a 1 loss Miss St. woulda made it over a 1 loss Florida State given how little respect the panel was giving the ACC. An ACC champ needs to go undefeated to guarantee a spot in the playoff.

What might be real hard is for a SEC team to finish with one L if one team does finish undefeated.

Assuming it's the hood favorite going 13-0, that leaves LSU, TAMU or Tennessee as the best options. (I didn't list Georgia because they would have to take a L to AU and somehow be high enough to sustain another L and remain #4)

I think Tennessee might be the logical one here, because they would finish the season undefeated with a strong schedule and under these auspices, a close loss to Auburn.

So for some odd reason you want the SEC to get two teams in, you'd have to also be a Tennessee fan (which coincides, because the only person who'd want that is a Tennessee fan)

I think a 1 loss Alabama makes it if they lose to Auburn and Auburn wins the SEC championship. I don't think you need an undefeated team and a 1 loss team from the other side. Alabama's schedule is so hard that I can't imagine the committe saying no to them if they have only 1 loss to Auburn. The only way Alabama gets shut out in that scenario is if the ACC Champ is undefeated. The Big 12 Champ is undefeated. And the Big 10 champ is a 1 loss Ohio State or Michigan State. And the Pac 12 Champ has 1 loss.

I think a 1 loss Alabama makes it over any 2 loss conference champ. And a 1 loss Big 12 champ or 1 loss ACC champ. They're schedule is just so much harder than any of those other conferences. I think the panel gives them that respect. Plus its a name brand. Alabama will always get the benefit of the doubt over almost any other 1 loss team in a human panel.

Computers don't decide now.......

I know. which is why Alabama woulda been even more of a lock. humans would not allow the defending champion to be knocked out of a 4 team playoff based on that lucky kick return TD. especially given the fact Alabama was undefeated and #1 all season dominating the toughest conference in america.

the fact that the computers still gave Alabama the benefit of the doubt makes it a LOCK they woulda made the 4 team playoff in 2013 if it woulda been around.

Bama would've made it and Michigan St would've been 4th team

You was one USC upset from playing for NC I can't believe it that 2012 team was smoke and mirrors

I wouldnt have been in favor of us in the title game either. Glad it didn't happen because it would have been just like the year before with Bama being undeserving of facing LSU in the title game when they didnt even win their own division.
