When you can't get enough premium recruits out your own state and seemingly can't impactfully recruit nationally, this is what happens to those type of schools. Michigan is at a huge crossroad right now. No good coach and not even the best school in it's own state. Not a good combo.

UM will be fine. You don't gross the biggest athletic revenue and stay irrelevant for long stretches of time unless you are your own worst enemy.

You ain't going nowhere without a coach who can level the recruiting landscape with Ohio State.
And secondly, the fact Michigan can't get a primetime coach even bofore the Hoke hire is a slap in the face to the school. Ohio State had one opening in 15 years and got the best coach on the market.
Michigan has two openings in five years resulting in Rich Rod and Hoke.
Ohio State gets who they want, Michigan gets who they can get.
Big difference.
UM problem is simple, they have to be willing to spend all that money they make on athletics BACK INTO athletics. How do you expect to compete when you won't outbid other schools that don't have them money to go toe to toe. They also pride themselves on academics and being clean but this isn't the 50s...
