Devin was 75% of our offense this year.Without him this offense would've been alot worse. He covers up alot of holes on this team just like Denard did while he was here.
I thought he deserved more time too, but they were out to get him as soon as he stepped on campus. He never had a chance. You're also about to get annihilated for saying that as I have over and over again. He had protection in high school, a lot of the plays were designed roll outs when you would see linemen get through, whenever he stood in the pocket, he had time, De La Salle is a good high school football program, they have decent talent, now the only time you ever will (they may actually close) and ever have heard of Inkster High was when Devin was playing and you want to talk about no protection, he lived with the other team in the backfield (probably caused his habit of panicking in the pocket), he was compared to Vince Young coming out but he HAD to play like VY, he had no protection, absolutely none. What do you think Shane becomes? Chad Henne? Navarre? He's slightly more athletic than those guys but we've seen this story before and it won't work today, yeah it worked 7 years ago, but the game changed very fast and that style doesn't work the same anymore (at least if you can't get same kind of talent that the southern schools get, and let's not get caught up with the recruiting rankings, its very very flawed). I was probably one of the few people that thought Michigan should have keep Rich Rod, he was getting better each year (record wise) and he was starting to get his players here (hence the BCS after he left), we see what he is doing at Arizona. Do I think Devin is great, no, but he is probably the better option and Shane will get two years still, he won't necessarily grow up but he will have more talent around him (at the skill positions) next year but my issue for next year in terms of Shane is the O line, the protection will probably be worse next year and being the less athletic QB it may make sense to just let Devin finish it out. I don't know how you can compare Devin as a WR to a guy with possibly top 5 hands EVER, there speed comparison fine but everything else NO.

until we get a halfway decent o-line we can't run a pro style offense period
this entire staff needs to go but Funk and Borges need to be fired Asap.No excuse for the o-line to be that bad 25 yards on 14 carries Shane was our leading rusher last nightFunny thing is .. even in losing Lewan and Schofield next year, we should be more talented. Experience is obviously gonna be a factor, but the talent is definitely gonna be there. If there's one thing Hoke's done well, it's recruit the OLine.
Edit: And Funk's gotta go. I know recruits love the guy .. but he cant seem to coach these kids up they way we need him to.
There is so much of this post I'm gonna tear apart, that I just wanna ask for your forgiveness now.
I almost stopped reading right here. Shane got his 5 star rating because of pure talent at the QB position. EVERY..SINGLE..ANALYST said the same thing .. 'I bet if he actually had a fraction of a second to throw .. he'd be GREAT' .. DLS's line was GOD AWFUL and their program is GOD AWFUL.
You DO know this is De La Salle in Warren, Michigan, and not in Compton, California right? Please tell me you're confusing the two ... because DLS is a joke of a high school program.
It wont work? Tell Alabama, LSU and USC that. You dont have to be a spread team to win it all. You wanna run pro style (like Bama and LSU and USC) thats fine.. you've just gotta execute.
He should have stayed? He refused to run the defenses that would enable him to win. His offense was stuffed every single time we played a defense that was worth a damn. But he should have stayed? Seriously? And what exactly is he doing at Arizona? He upset Oregon this year. Anything else? They're 7-5 right now in a league that doesn't even know defense exists. Sorry, but I disagree with your thought that we should have kept him. I'm not saying the Hoke hire was ideal .. but I wasn't for keeping RichRod around any longer.
I never said Devin wasn't a better option than Shane next year. I say let them duke it out this offseason and let the better man have the job. If you wanna run a pro style offense (which is what Hoke wants to do) then you HAVE to get Shane in there. Devin CANNOT run that offense. I dont care what ANYONE says. He's proven it time and time again. Vince Young you say?!?! Vince stayed in the pocket until there was nothing there and then let his legs do the damage. The second Devin sees anyone get close to him, he takes off. Defenses know that. They put a spy on him and we're done. (Ala Michigan State)
You only see their speed comparison? How about the fact that they both played quarterback in high school and then came to college as quarterbacks? Bolden made the switch after sucking up his pride and realizing that not only is it better for the team that he plays wideout, but it's better for his future in the league if he were a receiver. Also, how about the fact they're both 6'3 and 210 poundish? And the fact that Devins got some pretty good hands also?
Thats a lot in common .. so I dont know where you were going with that comment.
Dave Brandon wanted him out of there, Bill Martin would have made it work.I thought he deserved more time too, but they were out to get him as soon as he stepped on campus. He never had a chance. You're also about to get annihilated for saying that as I have over and over again.
