this movie was dogshyt.
-multiple times there would only be one killer and multiple people running instead of just squaring up
-all the characters were hateable
-the main 2 sisters have encounters with the killers, they start running and people just get slaughtered behind them
-the main girl pops shyt and doesn't back it up
-the only funny part was dude saying he killed a "Chad"
-girl got completely stabbed on the subway somehow her hands stopped working and she couldn't move the killers hand to scream.
-Chad was tough with ole boy at the party, then he was a hoe for the rest of the movie

-somehow one of these scrawny ass killers took out Gale's Bodybuilder black boyfried with zero effort

There's criticism in meta anything that merely pointing out cliches, and then using them is not really creative, which is fair, and to be really fair, Scream was always criticized for, I read some older pieces referencing at the the directors thought Craven was pulling punches for comedy with Scream.

I think it mostly worked here, I would have tightened up some things. Don't go so broad with the action (but the younger fans LOVED those scenes) the hammy acting was a little too far, but stuff like the love interest running up to the group "I got here as quick as I could" after an attack was hilarious to me.

One character acknowledging the absurdity of being personally involved in the case was funny too. The audience didn't seem to react to any of this, which is probably indicative of why the over the top stuff is needed.

I would love a final installment that just stripped out almost everything over the top, drop the painful Billy Loomis moments, and just had like a as realistic as possible take on a stalker at a college campus, for the whole movie, don't even have more than one or two attack scenes, but make them excellent. Spend 30 minutes developing characters. The actual terrifying nature of being stalked, and play that out for longer, dial up the tension. A lot of the fun to me, is in the scenes where they are discussing the events, which was always the intent of the series, teenagers who are self aware to know they are in a horror movie. because I think of myself. my group of friends, in high school. (too coked up and high to care? How I would react.

and on some level how fun that would be, to be in a horror movie and know it, as a horror fan. but for that to really excel, you need character work.

I mean, im really conflicted with the movie. I didnt think it was as good as 5. I really enjoyed the requel theme back then especially compared to Halloween or even the Evil Dead reset. But it just felt like a lot of nothing to me with some cool little moments. No stakes, the kills were good for the characters that we had no investment in. People getting stabbed left and right and making quips while bleeding out, then showing up in the next scenes unharmed. It was like "ok here's a gag now moving on." or "here's something we hope you'll REALLY like" type shyt.

When Randy died back in the day, I was legit shocked and slightly disappointed, but it made the movie so much more interesting. They named other franchises but didnt really comment on the state of horror franchises or go as in depth which was my favorite part of the movies.

But I'm glad Scream is back again and on a decent timeline. If we can get Scream 7 later next year that'd be great. I'm looking forward to it as a fan because you really never know if you'll like it or not but it'll for sure be a good time.

I think the whole strong guy thing was about her feeling safe, and having that undone in seconds, (absolutely ridiculous to access a penthouse like that in the upper west side but whatever)

Luxury apartment, muscled guy, and still ends up in a panic room running from a killer.

The costumes ability to transform anyone into a well trained soldier is pretty hilarious, I'm willing to suspend my disbelief, but a lot is really not needed. A dude attacking you in a Scream costume is scary enough, probably him wielding a shotgun was too much, but I liked that sequence.
